Default Floppy drive problem

My g/f's PC had a problem withthe floppy drive not working, so I bought a replacement and fitted it last night.

For some reason the light on the drive is permanently lit and whenever I try and access a disk it returns an error message saying drive not ready.

Any ideas what I could do to get it working?

Andy

The ribbon cable that connects to the m/board. If you look on the pins on the floppy drive one may be number 1, the edge of the ribbon cable that has a colured edge should go on that. Same at the m/board end
