Default DD's and Aeroports

Before i spend a few hours sanding my new boc down into a nice Rad - what are the pros and cons of putting my 9915 in an aero ported box?

i guess what im asking is how do slot and aero ported box differ, both to the ear and to the mic?

Cheers

There isn't much of a difference between either really, as long as you have good rads

In order to improve efficiency, you need to have big rads to smooth airflow around the box and port... An aeroport does this for you, cuz its got flares on either end

If you do a slot port though, you need to follow the same rule of having a large rad on the end, which can be tougher than using an aeroport

You may see a small gain by having a round port compared to a slot port due to increased friction on the walls, and the more "dead" air in the corners, but I can't see that making a massive amount of difference

Thats what i want to hear! I would rather rebaffle the box with an aero port than spend hours with filler and sanding

but im sure that if aeroports where louder geoff would have used them in the mini right!

Its all down to port area.

Getting a specific area is easier with a slot port. With aeros you are stuck to the size they are made in.

In a lower tuned car (than a panda), an aeroport just dosnt have the cross sectional area.

Slot port for the area, no doubt.

And whats this hours of sanding lark? 10 mins with an angle grinder, and a quick dust off with 40 grit papar

Curves in the corners of a slot port to stop "dead" areas is just internet myth brought on by some kind of theory. Its just too small to measure when sound is concerned. as long as the port radii have a full and propper transition into these corners, and the port walls are smooth, its all good
