New DLS Nobelium 6.2 [many Pics]
Hello,
Maybe it is interesting for somebody! In the last days i get the new DLS Nobelium system for a test
The Speaker design is much better than the Iridium or UR systems before!
High quality X-over with copper foil coils and a impedance correction for both tweeter and midbass! The tweeterlevel ist adjustable in 4 steps! Aluminium baskets also for midbass an tweeter! The grill of the tweeter is removeable!
I it...
In the next days i will install it in my car! I have sealed enclosures with ~7litres!
DLS recommend 6litres closed for the midbass! This should fit!
Greetings Gerhard

Look very nice. The basket reminds me of Dynaudio's, and the xovers remind me of CDT Audio ones.
Be sure to keep us informed on how they perform.

I've had the midbasses for 4 months now. They are excellent, you'll be very pleased with them.
I'm currently installing the Nobellium 10" sub as we speak. It's been tested in a temporary box, and again, i was suitably impressed.

Hello Nige,
Today i install it in my car!
The first sound impact - great! good punch with much detail in bassnotes, very quick in the mids!
An aluminium mountingframe for the tweeter will follow, but
the outer diameter of the new tweeter is a little bit taller, the old one doesn´t fit!
A discription of the system will follow in 1-2weeks when all drivers are "runned in" and the korrekt EQ adjustment is made...
Actuall i have make a comparison between the Iridium 12 and the Nobelium 12 in my Car!
regards Gerhard

Nige, would love to have a listen to the Nobeliums next time our paths cross
They look fantastic, I adore my UP/UR combo & am interested in comparing

how does it sound? is it detailed compared to the iridiums? i'm guessing because of the cone material used.
what about the tweeter? does it sound like the UR1? i used to have the UR1, it sounded very round and thick, but it lacked sparkle and air because it rolled off at 10khz..

The installation integrity makes a lot of difference, even on a tweeter. Just by gluing the front housing on, my UR1's had aboout 2 dB more output. On a csope, they are flat to 16dB, and the -3dB at 20k. And they have lots of sparkle too. How were they mounted? They need to be quite on axis to sound best.

Sorry to raise an old thread, but Nige how do you rate the midbass as I heard it was a touch on the light side?

As always, they are only as good as the installation. Mine are mounted in 5mm steel baffles welded to very heavily dampened doors, and certainly don't lack midbass.

Thanks Nige, would you say then that perhaps the mids are more sensitive to installation than other mids, or are they all the same no matter what you install.

No, not at all. The previous model Iridium mids were, due to the pressed steel basket design, but all the new models of Ultimate, Iridium and Nobelium have a much more open cast basket.

What do you set your crossovers at Nige. I am interested in how low the midbass goes without any issues.
Many thanks again

I only run mine down to 5hz as the sub is in the dash, but they will run down to 40hz if the mounting is good enough and the door is solid.

That's either a typo, or Sweden has yet another export which can be labelled "hardcore"

Hello,
I run my speaker down to 63Hz / 24dB.
I also tried 50Hz / 36dB but this only cost mid perfomance...
The nobelium 6 got a fs of 64Hz!
I would´t recommend to set the highpass under fs.
Regards Gerhard

Retail price for the Nobelium 6.2 is ~577pound in Austria.
6.2 means 6,5" - 2 ways...
