hi guys

can anyone give me any advice on the pioneer TS-W121SPL subs? on paper they seem alright but for the money i'm a bit dubious, basically wondering if you would recommend them or at least tell me what it would be like running with a jackson x.2002 amp putting out 800wrms.

cheers lads

I can tell you the Jackson amp doesn't put out 800w RMS!

You'll need a 2 ohm stable amp to run it and I expect the Jackson is a 2 channel that's bridged so it'll only work at 4 ohm.

nice to know, the amp is 2ohm stable but you're probably right about it being 4 ohm bridged so... any recommendations for how to get big noise?

I'd get rid of the amp and buy something better really! I expect you'll get about 250-300w RMS bridged from that Jackson if you're lucky.

If funds allow I'd have an SPL Dynamics Pro 12 D4 sub (look in classifieds, I think Woosey is selling one in a box for £110) and a new one is £150

For an amp I'd get a Magnat monoblock for about £130 new from CAD which will do over 400w RMS at 2 ohms.

any idea what sort of volume could be expected in a 106??

With that setup in a decent, well designed ported box I'd expect about 141 - 142 on new mics when it's all run in. That's pretty loud really for less than £300!

Hmmmmm, where is your local dealer and who are they?! Basically Jackson kit is cheap rubbish most of the time with highly inflated max power figures!

Can you find me a link to the specs of it?

I've been trying to get a link for ages but i cant find one, though i'm going back home from uni on wednesday to N.Ireland where the dealer is, so i can look up the manual then and post the specs then for you, i've got a link to an amp which sounds the same spec as mine but looks a bit different though, oh yea and it's in german but hey you can make the majority of it out lol

Basically the max power ratings are only achievable for 1 nano second with a 45v power supply and all internal components cooled with liquid nitrogen!

TBH it sounds like you got stung a bit on the amp I'm afraid :(

Yeah, back to the question, the Pioneers are good but you need power at 2 ohms and the SPL Dynamics sub probably doesn't need as much power to work well.

yea i know now i got stung but there aint a lot i can do, its sucks and i'm guessin that trying to sell the amp on wont be that easy so i don't really know what my best plan of action is tbh

you could go to the dealer and say you claimed this amp would be able to do x wattage not jsut x wattage for a nano second

e-bay could work as well

yea i'd thought about ebay, there aint a chance i'd get anything back of the dealer though, i've tried that b4, saying i paid £380 for the amp and the price is still on the box what you reckon i could sell it for, just so i can see what other amps would be available if you know what i mean, oh yea it has only been used for less than a month
