anyone used these? they seem really cheap for what they are? 17 quid for a 450w one!

They're quite noisy and they don't make quite as much power as they say they do (a bit like a Sony amp) but they're OK for the money.

They're ok. We use them where I work and are pretty good.

The only thing is I believe that is bad about them is that you don't get quite enough 12V molex power leads for a 450W PSU imo. Other than that, they're pretty safe - Dual fanned I believe and gold plated too (Or is that only 550W model

only want something to power a P2 system, blew my sisters PSU last night when i was transfering stuff to a new case :D

32dB isn't particularly quiet. It would probably be loud enough for it to be annoying if your PC case sits right underneath your desk.

A duel fan one is a little quieter than a single fan one as they both rotaste slower. They are no louder than a PSU that comes included with a standard £35 case, and may be quieter than your PII PSU.

Oh is your PII board an ATX board? Cos if it's the old style AT board (With Big AT style keyboard plug, and serial mouse ports (No standard PS2 ports) then this PSU will not be compatable.

yeh its atx. i'll give it a try, if its too loud then i'll flog it on ebay and get something better. but as its only a P2, dont really wanna spend 40 odd quid on an antec, especially when it wont be much quiter. unless anyone can reccommend anything quieter for around 20 quid?

the psu that matches the case is the Antec one with the blue led fans inside it....will this be much quieter than the q-tec? reviews on it say it isnt that quiet. the antec one is about 45-50 quid.

thats pretty well it.

if its an old duron, or a p2/p3 i dont care about then i dont mind putting PSU's like that in. even if one blows i dont care, cos it still cheaper than a better PSU. just have to cross fingers that it dosent take the board/chip with it

I used the qtec 550 but swapped to an antec 480 the noice isnt a problem the only prob I had was the v core levels wernt enough to keep the processor cooking as I run a 2800+ amd barton with requires 1.65v the qtec was only kicking out 1.59 stable so I changed it.
For an old p2 though you could stick just about anything in over 250 watts but I recommend going for at least 300 watt

so it wouldnt be the best idea to put one of these with an XP2600? 512mb ddr400 ASROCK board and a couple fans. i was going to get the 500w unit.

are they basically a false economy?

qtec 550w should be fine with that
i'm using 3 of them at the mo, powering my server, and 2 machines that are on 24/7 doing seti (full work load) of which my machine is also overclocked.

yeh sort off there great with p4's which only need 1.5 vcore but I would spend a little extra cash and go for summat like an antec or emermax
