My lecturer gave us a task to find out what protocols are used to communicate with other PCs if TCP/IP is uninstalled, because he says that if TCP/IP is not available on two networked PCs then they can still communicate. Any one know where I could find out about this?

netbui
or netbeui I cant remember how its spelt.
it just works, i dont know how, just does.
but watch the wording of your question.
you say if tcp is uninstalled. I thought this leaves nothing the computers cant even broadcast.
when a NIC is configured windows usually puts in IPX/SPX, TCP/IP and netbeui you usually then remove the ****.
I dont know what the text book answer is tho

Does RS232 (ie: serial ports) count?
Could be a bit of a crafty one, lecturers can be evil :)

I think he is meaning netbeui.. ta thats what I was thinking, but I thought NetBios still requires TCP for NBT, but not for broadcasts to master browser. Gonna look up netbios notes.
Wording of question is difficult due to him being South American, so can be tricky. He did mention the removal of TCP/IP from the NIC config.
LOL never thought of the serial ports and theyare evil.
Thanks for the replys.

Does he mean without installing anything else?
NetBIOS - What Windows uses
IPX/SPX - What Netware uses

He means without having anything else installed I am thinking, because the Novell protocols would be to easy an answer. Stumped me.
