View Full Version : Excellent Clifford Install...
Blade 10-02-2004, 10:30 PM Just thought this was worth a post in here...
I'd been looking to get a Clifford installed for a while, dropped Gary@Directed a line for a recomended local installer to me, and had one fitted-
Work was done at Imperial Securities in Tipton, West Midlands, and a superb job had been done- Had a full demo of the features, staff were polite and most helpful. I was also most impressed by the installers ability to work around all the wiring and 0AWG cabling running through the vehicle and around the engine bay, but they've done a sterling job, with great attention to detail- The box is tricks is mounted straight onto the firewall, and although they said it'd take a few days to settle in, i've not had a single false alarm...
Theres been a lot of talk about Cliffords, and them needed to be fitted by somebody who really knows thier stuff, but I've been really happy with mine so far, and will be taking her back ina couple of weeks, to have the Dualzone Prox. Sensor fitted, aswell as perhaps some other toys (remote start looks super-cool ;))
Madmax 10-02-2004, 10:33 PM I'm glad your car is now fully alarmed :D
Harry Bo 10-02-2004, 10:48 PM Excellent news mate, that must be a comfort to you :)
Just link it up so it burps 30Hz when someone breaks in now ;)

leevets 11-02-2004, 01:42 PM check the sensers in a few days. with the internal sensers they normal adjust as they settle in so where it now goes off when you get into the car it might not in a few days. my mates done this so he just had to have it turned up a bit.
if you get a good installer you can have anything you want on it. most will say they cant do it. im putting 2 sirens on mine, a glass break, a tilt/tow auto start and its gona be wired to horn to make it really loud. also get the window sticker so it really shows you have a good alarm.
what one do you have 300 600 ?
Blade 11-02-2004, 06:16 PM No Deano, it wasn't done at Bass Monkies :p :)

Don't tempt me dude! All in good time though, not long till i'm all done @ uni, and the fun will begin... Most likely involving a 2nd H2 :beam:
It does give me more peace of mine though, although i've discovered the dissadvantages of having a car alarm thats more intelligent than me- I keep setting it off while i'm learning all the stuff it does :red:
I didn't have the Blackjaxx anti-car jacking feature, but I do kinda like the way that it automatically locks the doors when you start the engine... With a large system in there, its always a concern someones going to hear you coming down the street, and try and turf you out of the car @ the lights
She's going back for a spanky proximity sensor ina couple of weeks, and the remote-start system to get her warmed up ont hese cold mornings (if I can find the cash!)
Harry Bo 11-02-2004, 08:27 PM Rich, make sure you don't get Clifford stickers in there, stick some Toad ones on or something... no point making things easier than absolutely necessary ;)

leevets 11-02-2004, 08:29 PM why not put clifford stickers in there then they no its a good alarm. someone tried to nick a mates audio from his car when he had his sparkrite. now he has got a much bigger system which everyone nos and no1 has attempted it. as soon as you look at the car you no its got a clifford alarm so they stay clear.

I do have stickers, but i've not put em in there, not decided on whether putting stickers from another brand would be the best idea yet or not- It does give an indication thats theres something in there worth stealing... I also had thoughts about asking the guys not to mount the red LED in the cabin, as it may attract attention, and, again, make people wonder whats being protected...
Ah, Dilemmas... Wish I knew what was the safest option
Andy@React 12-02-2004, 04:26 AM i dont put brand name stickers in my car, if they know what you have got, they might know they can get round it, just have a plain LED, they can think you have an alarm, or they can think you just have an LED, they wont know till they break in!
i would (and have done in the past) put "security installed by..." stickers in my window before, its a warning, but they still dont know what they are up against! :)

Gary Roberts 12-02-2004, 02:33 PM Two trains of thought on the topic of Clifford-branded window stickers of course;
1. Have un-branded or alternative brand warning stickers to keep the theves guessing.
2. Clifford has a pretty good (bad?) rep amongst the thieving fraternity - so just go with it! All Clifford systems are pro install only (should be anyway - let's not go there again!) and the thief can't tell which system or what combo of sensors are lying in wait after all!
Any alarm is really a matter of shifting the odds in your favour anyway, and making the low-life twocer look at the next car instead of yours!
The choice....is yours :raz:
Gary Roberts 12-02-2004, 02:34 PM PS. Glad the boys at Imperial did you a good job Blade!
GTi Si 12-02-2004, 07:06 PM Is there a good/best installing in the Hampshire area?
My local Sextons seem OK, but they cannot even remember/be bothered to order me some HU parts so I am wondering whether they could install an alarm properly!
The car is a Mk4 Golf as well so the install is not exactly 'normal'.
Thanks

adrimo 17-02-2004, 08:21 PM i dont quite understand the arguement of the stickers, if a thief wants to steal your car NOTHING will stop him, and if some crack head wants to nick your radio he will. whether or not you have an alarm or not and not putting the window stickers in wont exactly stop them will it.
thiefs normally know how to get around most alarms but i never heard of thiefs who specialise in particular brands. so just put them in the window at least it makes the oppotunists think twice.

I hear this rebuttal on car security quite often but I simply don't accept it.
Granted, a car is mobile & is therefore difficult to secure effectively. But a professionally fitted aftermarket car alarm is a one-off. Unique. Differently installed & almost definitely with different sensors to the one down the road or across the street.
This uniqueness keeps the thieves guessing as to what lies in wait for them, and while an opportunist is difficult to deter (always remove your h/u face & never leave anything of value on view on seats, etc!) a pro car thief will always go for a soft option - like the car with a factory-fit alarm, or no obvious alarm!
To sticker or not...up to you :wow:
Lardy:Standard Byke Co: 18-02-2004, 02:06 AM I'll tell ya what, i'll offer £100 to any soddin car thief who can successfully get into and start my car with a C600 on it, within 30 mins.
It ain't happenin'. leave the stickers there Rich, theifs ain't stupid, they'll look for a car with no visible signs of security and do that one over. They also know, if you have a clifford, that they'll not drive it away, and if they just want the audio, they'll be taking it out with the alarm going off, njo two ways about it.
These so called specialist thieves, lmao, there ain't none, and if they do know what they are up to, they would not be wasting their soddin time on saxos with some car stereo in, they'll be seeking out the likes of Lexus, porsche, ferrari, Aston etc.
mk1 matt 21-02-2004, 12:15 AM Blade - I've just had a Toad alarm installed. Wanna swap stickers?? :)
Sunil 25-05-2004, 04:26 PM Dont you have to have the clifford stickers on to claim the £250 excess protection in the first year?
jjmillsy 25-05-2004, 04:31 PM Rich, where did they mount the brain out of interest?? Behind the glove box on the firewall? Also where did they put the siren - by the fuse box in the front right of the engine bay?
Cheers :D Oh and nice alarm :p
Blade 25-05-2004, 04:40 PM Cheers dude :)
I wouldn't have thought that the stickers need to be on to claim insurance discount.. Never heard of that happening before...
They took the covering off the firewall and mounted directly onto the metal, behind the glove-box, yes- They even moved my split charge relay which was under there, and slightly re-routed me 0AWG, dont a really top job... :) The siren is in the engine bay, again, mounted onto the firewall, on the drivers side, looks pretty solid...
neil-uk 25-05-2004, 07:05 PM I believe its a requirement of the T&C's for the £500 theft guarantee on the Concept600 as this is taken straight from the pg24 of the manual ;)
(2) Clifford Electronics window stickers are adhered to both the driver’s-side and curb-side windows and are clearly visible on both sides from outside the vehicle.
As to whether they'ed honour it if they were missing, that's for Gary and Co to let us know :)

Absolutely, spot on. All the T's & C's for the AntiTheft Guarantee are listed within your owner's manual so no grey areas there I hope!
Bear in mind that this Guarantee is more of a statement than anything else - Clifford is putting it's money where it's mouth is; if your system fails you & the car is stolen, unrecovered, etc, etc, we'll pay up to the stated value towards your out-of-pocket insurance excess :wow: NO other manufacturer has the balls to do that :D
And stickers....I always wondered how we'd ever know if they were there or not....in the event of a claim meeting the other T's & C's  :D
Blade 25-05-2004, 08:55 PM Gary... O/T, but the H2 is ported now, and very cool... Gonna be in TCA again next month, vented this time... much chuff'tness :D

Completely off topic...but thanks for the info anyway :D Presuming that the 'chuff'tness' doesn't imply port-noise  :D
