I am thinking about getting an Alpine 7998. I want to use it in conjunction with my H700, so digital output would be my prefered connection method. If I get an Alpine CD changer to go with it will the output from this be Digital or Analogue?

You want either a CHA-S624 or CHA-S634 (MP3 too). They are both current models with optical output.

You connect them via AI-Net (supplied with changer) and optical (you'll need to buy a lead) to the H700, this will provide a digital connection :)

The CHA-S634 doesnt have optical output like the CHA-S624.

The CHA-S624 has just been discontinued, so they are still available in shops but we no longer have any.

Is there a suitable new alternative that has a digital output?

However, I won't be beaten! :D

If you want a changer with optical output, get a DHA-S680. As a bonus, it plays DVDs. The downside is the price, I'm guessing somewhere around £1000 ;)

Sounds like a good setup. What extra features does a H700 have over the normal 7998 features?

No worries :) only I have an ITX PC and dont need DVD (or MP3) playback ;)

Thinking about it i may be better off the with 9815 as I wont be using the DAC's in the 7998. Although I like the look of the 7998 more (but it is quite a lot more!) I am guessing there won't be much of a feature advantage to the more expensive one?

yourt main advantage from it would be the optical out into the h700, and possibly the phantom face, but you can get that with cheaper units like my 7969 ;)
