simzimma 30-01-2004, 09:49 PM sum1 said to me that us amps are poor, for sq, that they only good for spl burps? and that u can;t use them for daily drivin???
i always thought us amps had amazin sq, was i wrong??
mini_basser 30-01-2004, 09:52 PM Who told you that? Admittedly Ive not used any of their products, but I have NEVER heard them being referred to as bad for SQ! You can certainly use them for daily driving, just turn it down
They make lots of amps, more than just huge power monoblocks...

Snowie 30-01-2004, 09:57 PM ummm. lies lies lies....
theyre great amps! some TOP sq guys run us amps... their tube amps are meant to be very special...
puggie 30-01-2004, 09:58 PM I'll be running them for my SQ setup
Gezzza 30-01-2004, 10:00 PM all amps sound the same anyway
simzimma 30-01-2004, 10:03 PM thats good to hear, so i wasn;t wrong! :)
Mason 30-01-2004, 10:06 PM The normal ones produce lots of clean power.. Which is very handy in a good sounding setup.. You'd have nothing to fear buying them for an SQ system.
Some of their amps ARE specifically for SPL burps. But no-one with an ounce of intelligence would consider using them for front speakers, or even your typical streetbass sub as they are simply too powerful.
well if you can get to peterborough ice direct soundoff i will demo them to you.
in the interim i would like you to read both of these independant reviews......

i think that should answer your concerns. if you need to ask any product specific questions call me on 07960 753024.
mini_basser 30-01-2004, 10:32 PM I need to spend more time in that section: missed both of those thread before  Thanks for the direction VD :)

I would disagree a bit with Mason - there are amps that naturally suit competition usage - but even then they have very good sound quality.....the issue historically is that they were one of the main producers of "cheater amps" - high current devices that produced all their power at unattainable (for real life use) impedances.
One of the classics was the "VLX - 25". An amp rated at 25RMS at 4 ohms (2 x 12.5) that actually produced 3200 RMS at .25 ohms bridged. Bear in mind that often the subs used were SVC 4 ohm in those days.......since the power classes have been scrapped or relaxed in both SQ and SPL these days its become a tadge pointless to make amps like that - and so the high voltage topology has become more relavent - amps that do their peak power into 2 or 4 ohm bridged loads....
There is one of their sponsered guys using the USA6000 in SQ for his single 13.5 W7....i guess thats what you call headroom?

I only commented that some of the range really had too much power for front speakers or your average (emphasis on the average) single sub.. I have no doubt that the SQ is still very good :)
Personally I'd not run my comps off an amp with certain protection circuits removed and no x-overs.. Others may prefer this.. :)
lmao!!!!!!!
meh - put a 2000x bridged into each pair of comps - a mere 3K per channel LOL!
I think it would be fairer to say that "some of the range are specifically for subwoofer usage" ;)

:) Kinda what I meant before :)
I didn't think we could really disagree on this one...
neither did i mason - especially after our msn convo the other night hehehe ;)
speaking of which i need to discuss things a tadge further with you over the weekend buddy! :)
