View Full Version : Market Research - Class D Bass Amps 0.5kw & 1kw
Geoff@BBG 28-01-2004, 09:59 PM A number of our suppliers are gonna start shipping Class D bass amps that do 0.5kw and 1kw (multiple models) into 2ohm load at the 14.4v supply voltage.
What are the movers and shakers in the market at the moment with list prices if possible ?

WaddaVTR 28-01-2004, 11:40 PM Hifonics Brutus 1500d does 1000w at 2ohms rrp is £600 but can get them for £410.
peter smith 29-01-2004, 12:18 AM alpine mrd 500 £399.99, sony 1600w mono amp 299.99, mac audio pulsar 1xl 299.99, kicker 600.1 599.99, dls cad1000 499.99 ,alpine mrp m350 £150,alpine mrd 1000 599.99 these are the ones i see alot of down my way
Andy@React 29-01-2004, 01:04 AM there aren't many 500rms class d's i can think of?!? nearest is the 600d by directed, (600rms) i think kenwood make summat around that output too.
so it could be a fairly easy area to sell products in...
Andrew.
Sher@Utopia 29-01-2004, 01:14 AM mtx81000d, rated at 1k rms at 2ohm, but does well over 1500 easy!
no idea on RRP, but u can inport em from the US fairly cheapish.
From US Amps
DE500 - Into 2 ohms 700 approx at 14.4v (500 at 11v). More into lower loads. 90 % effecient. small (250/1 size) chassis. As hybbrid class d/e can play to 11K!!!! £325.
DE1000 - Into 2 ohms 1400 approx at 14.4v (1000 at 11v) 90 % effecient. More into lower loads. 500/1 size chasses. Has benched at 1800 into 1ohm at 15.0. £510.
-SuperiorSounds- 29-01-2004, 06:17 PM IMO USAmps will more or less be the benchmark to look to in price/quality/output ratio. Also Viper - 600d 320, 1100d - 450. And these are all underrated, especially USAmps.
Alistair 29-01-2004, 07:27 PM IMO the benchmark will always be Rockford Fosgate / Alpine / Sony / etc. as far as volume sales go. i'd bet most buyers will still go for what their local Halfords / ICE shop has on display / recommends.
RF 500bd £399, 1000bd £449 - prices as per CAD's website. Alp & Kenny models cheaper, but I didn't check the spec.
Good, recognised brands (PG etc.) I guess could shoot about these prices, less well known brands (Caliber, etc.) would need to under-cut to get market share.
All IMHO of course... ;)
Mouser 01-02-2004, 06:57 AM RE 36.1D £495 1800 WRMS, strappable
Crystal CAD T600.2 1200 WRMS £425

Lardy:Standard Byke Co: 01-02-2004, 09:04 AM I have to ask Geoff, why a class D for 500w rms? These days, 500 rms is easily achievable from an a/b. Heck, the magnet for like £150 does 450 into 2 Ohms iirc.
Perhaps its to do with efficiency? Having said that, 500w rms is not exactly going to be a massive current draw..................
bayvanman 03-02-2004, 03:16 AM I would say the new Blaupunkt/Velocity Burning Desire 2 ( I really enjoyed the Burning Desire, great A/B amp). The BD2 is rated at 1000rms @ 4ohms, 1750rms @ 2ohms and 2000rms @ 1ohm.
£499.99.
