Theyre good!

Heard it hooked up to Daves golf and well...its louder, tighter, more controlled, and hits way harder than the D3!!
Now yes it does dish out loads of power so it must get mega hot........so open the boot goes...its still cold! now its a big fecker, but looks really good... and i esspecially like the circuitry all on display

sounds really good... im DEFFINATELY getting one of the 1000x's now to run a couple se12s. i actually cant wait, mounted to show off the circuitry all lit up for SURE!.... damn im blinging!...

Don't think halfords liked us playing it right in front of the shop! :clown: :D

VD:   thought you really had blown up those new comps....lol....would have taught you a lesson!

Excellent stuff matey, i'd sure like to give one a go myself, see if they really are "all that" as i've heard :)

Yeah - it was a bit of a shock just how much "more" everything it had.

It really impressed me - certainly thrapped the 9515's more than the D3 could - and thats with a subsonic filter on (the D3 never had one) !

Anyhow i am sure you will see more of the same when people start to run them!

Just another thumbs up really for US Amps, had my DE1000 just coming up for a year now, exceptional quality and amazed at how much it gives out in terms of power...

BTW Van Dave - can you obtain the SAT Software/connector at all??? or advise me how to build the correct interface and possibly copy me the software?? I'd be extremely greatful

Bear in mind the board is blue not green - my shoddy digicam playing up!

Looks far more convincing in the flesh as well!

What you should note (it is shown in 1 of the pics) is that the 4 longer runs of 8AWG in the amp are hard wired to the speaker outputs - the short runs are for the +- 12v!!!!!

Not yet - TBH its just plonked in - i can go and get you one if you want but theres nowt to see as its only a temp amp until my DE3000 x ??? ;) arrives!

As far as SAT goes i will have to look into it - but i am of the understanding it is a dealer tool primarily. I will get back to you in due course.

Also you got PM!

Well, they sure do look meaty through the perspex, but i'm not so keen on the silver chassis heat sink, looks a little cheapie I think... Ah well, I think it's just have to be mounted upside down, very impressive that way :)

A little put off by the terminals though, they look a bit cheaply made, how come they didn't incorporate some nice big screw-down-holey type connectors for 8/4/0AWG power cabling, and big speaker cabling, like most amps do?

VD
23-01-2004, 07:48 PM
OK.

First off that heatsink is no longer a current finish - and is not a colour i would have chosen. They come in mirror chrome or gloss black.

Cable wise the guy at US Amps did explain the reasons for going down the multiple 8AWG route to me - but i didnt totally understand it!

I guess its just the way they do it at the end of the day - all their monster amps dont have terminals and have multiples of 8AWG sprouting out of them! I guess when you have the awesome reputation they have you dont need to change to meet market fads, hence they stick to the same design year after year - if it aint broke dont fix it.

I would like to point out today that Snowie, AudiA4 and i went and played the system hard again today.

Then we turned the gain on the amp up.

Dooooooood! It rocks hehehe. You wait till you hear it at ICE Direct people ;)

Good to hear it's performing well, although i'm still a little put off by the 4 X 8AWG connectors... a single 0AWG feed would have been much better IMO as far as power and performance go :)

Dave, just wondered why they chose to run 8AWG cable over the board, instead of using a nice chunky set of Bus Bars internally?

VD
28-01-2004, 06:58 PM
Really blade?

Better performance - i think not ;) I hear the multi 8AWG route is better as it gives more contact area and if one connector is not soundly connecting the amp can pull from the others.

in addition the surface area of 8AWG is far larger than a bus bar would be is it not? I guess its why TRU's use 8AWG in the C7's. Plus wire can go round corners of course ;)

The 8AWG as it happens (like ALL wire solid or stranded in the amps) is custom made to U.S. Amp specs by Esoteric Audio (found at www.esotericaudio.com)

8AWG is flexible, if you are using the amp for SPL or Streetbass runbling it will be subject to some quite serious vibrations, i would think the flexibility of the wire would make things more reliable as I'd be concerned about stressing solder joints on large solid buss bars. The flex on the wire will probably increase reliability in the harsh automotive-streetbass-nutter environment, well it won't make them any less reliable anyway.

Indeed.

in fact his 152db was from a 1000x i think (or it could even be a 2000x - poss even this one ;))

US Amps are the boll0cks!

Daves car at one point started to make me feel like my throat was closing up, shame the women with the baby at the garage asked us to turn it down lol

If I had an install planned I would definitely use US Amps

I jsut read a review of an older model (I think its an older model), reviewers said it was v wooly and unaccurate in the bass department, but treble was OK. I'll see if I can find it for you lot:). Got approx 3 our 5 stars etc. in most categories

I'm guessing it was in Car Hi-Fi, or Car Sound + Security, as Dale collected these magazines off Daryll for me on the weekend :D

yeah.

i think till we know more info we cannot say what amp it was - i personally haven't ever heard anyone having issues with the SQ of U.S. Amps - however they have made so many amps in the 20 years they have been in business its hard to say.

There are reviews on the U.S. Amps sites reproduced "warts and all" which may be more relavent - likewise when you tell us which amp i will follow it up for you.
