The 2003 CompX models are DVC 2-ohm per coil, and are the budget version of our Dual Gap Geometry woofer design. (Been talked about plenty here so won't bore anyone any more  )

Power handling is 1,000 RMS for 10, 12 or 15-inch - the early sales brochures were a screw-up :whatever:

The first generation CompX were also DVC but 4-ohm per coil, and were a conventional magnet structure. Can't remember the exact power handling on these 'cos I'm getting on a bit now and the grey-matter is beginning to fail me...message me if you need more on these and I'll look them up :D

Could you mate for me? Im pretty sure I was told my Comp X 10"ers were dual 4 ohm but I've been wondering about them. The tech specs calls them a: "Tri-power Sound Quality and SPL woofer with extended low frequency response" if that helps.
I bought them as a budget option and paid £250 for a pair of tens (inc £80 for a box :red: ), hoping to add two more and run my Rockford 1501bd at 2 ohm (=429.75w RMS per sub) so power handling info and enclosure suggestions would be fantastic...

I'll be at L5 if you're going *weather holding*

OK, kicked the grey-matter into life with some caffeine now! If they are the older CompX 10-incher's, you need to aim for sealed enclosures 0.33 to 0.45 cu ft per woofer, and that already includes the displacement of the driver - so dead small! The smaller enclosure will mean a slightly peakier SPL-type output, the larger drops it slightly lower and makes it slightly more musical.

I'm pretty sure that power handling was 800-1200 wrms, but will check today & re-post later if I'm wrong.

I think you probably have the older model, but best way to check is to meter one of the voice coils to be certain - should be around 4-ohms per coil!

If they are anything like the old ones then they are pukka :)

The new ones are better! Cheapest version of our Dual Gap Motor so better all round - Great for Streetbass or general use! :)

Gary @ Directed....

OH MY GOD!!

My 10" Directed Comp X 5108s are dual 2 ohm mate. The tech spec sheet says
RE (ohms): 1.8
Z (ohms): 2.00

Now, the new ones say theyre model: 5102
RE (ohms): 3.4
Z (ohms): 4

So mine must be dual 2 ohm? This means that at the moment they are being powered with 1719w RMS or 800 odd EACH.

The ones u have are not 2 ohm DVC they are DVC 4 ohm :)

The new ones are DVC 2 ohm to get more power from the amps to suit them :)

How come the model numbers are different then?
My model says Z 2 ohms
New model says Z 4 ohms

??

If Im wrong pls explain why?? Im well confused now

Because on your ones that was measured with the coils in paralelle, the new ones measuerd in series. :)

OK sit down for this one buddy, it might make ya a bit shaky...

I just metered em. Dual 2 ohm coils. Nuff said.

Z is nominal coil impedence, not series or parallel.

But nevermind, my amps running at 2 ohm and sending out 1719w RMS :D :D :D

PM TB3, and he'll sort you out with a price...

Also, Jumpstarter is selling 6 X CompX 15's, the older style... I challenge anyone to not be impressed by his car... It truly is a streetbass legend, I can't believe he's selling all his subs now :(

Mine sound lovely at the moment - the bass is really tight and powerful on certain tunes and drops really smoothly. Cant wait till I get another 2 10s to make a total of 4, all sealed I think.

I was thinking about adding a third the other day but I'll be skint for months so I cant. Three would be more practical and still stupid loud.

The side mirrors do a propa bass line dance and the coat on my parcel shelf (wedged between the shelf and the glass of the door to stop the parcel shelf rattlin) inflates when the bass hits! :o Well it amuses me at traffic lights anyway.... :shiny:
