Bibby 13-01-2004, 02:21 AM Got my mdf today, started to build my new vented enclosure for my new sub.....
All pieces cut, aperture for sub is done, just need to put it together now. Mwuhahahahaaaaa!!! :clown:
Can't wait...seems like an eternity since I've had my car. It gets repaired Wednesday (fingers crossed all goes to plan), so all being well, should have the install in by the end of this week. :D

Tej, next meet I'll be at will be T9 m8. :)
Onnie, you know which sub I have m8...the IDMax!!
Top suggestions folks....Spandex would be funny! Paint the whole boot in rubber, lol.... :clown:
Mallett's Mallet 13-01-2004, 04:57 AM Right.I'm doing mine in my kitchen too.
Looks pretty damn good.Nice edges.
James M 13-01-2004, 05:02 AM Bibby - you build good boxes mate :)
Blade 13-01-2004, 05:19 AM I reckon you should go for that black + white cow skin print... proper pimpin I tell thee. Great looking box, looks most solid
Bibby 13-01-2004, 01:22 PM Cheers guys. I'll keep taking photos as I go along, someone might find them useful. :)
Tim, I really rate these black fast screws from B&Q...although they call them furniture screws. They have a really wide pitch and go in really quick (hence fast screw), but they grip much better than any other type I've used, and the mdf really likes them. Plus, a carpenter I know said they're the strongest & best for mdf. :D
Rich, they do have cow-fur in my fabric suppliers, lol....http://www.acidtrax.net/smileys/alan.gif
They have a camouflage one too.....if I used that, my install would be uber-stealth! http://www.acidtrax.net/smileys/chuckle.gif
Bibby 15-01-2004, 01:45 AM Hmmmm........100 screws later and I've run out! :D
Almost done, and my car's back on the road. Should be able to start re-installing tomorrow. :)
mini_basser 15-01-2004, 02:22 AM That a very tidy box sir! And an amusing pic of you abusing the sealents intended use :p
Tim: do it - you know you want to take over the kitchen for a day or two ;)

Mallett's Mallet 15-01-2004, 02:38 AM Well,I've been up BeenQueue and invested in a laser guided,pendulum action(thanks Eddy),cup of tea making,800watt jigsaw. It's the daddy.
Saturday I'm going up to get supplies and wood.
What aisle are the screws in B? Just screws and gripfill.Think thats all I'll need?
mini_basser 15-01-2004, 02:57 AM Superb :D Umm yeh: screws + screwdriver, GripFill plus gun (presuming it comes with one)
Dont forget the little things like a wiring terminal (if you want one - about £2 for a basic one from Maplin) and some way of sealing the sub in
M:B
(apologies if Im being patronising and you already remembered those things  )
Boxer_IVE 15-01-2004, 03:05 AM Nice box Bibby. And a tidy kitchen too! :)
Mallett's Mallet 15-01-2004, 04:15 AM Nope1 Forgot about the terminal.DOH!
And the sealant.
Bibby 15-01-2004, 09:16 AM Nice box Bibby. And a tidy kitchen too! :)
Cheers m8.....only the kitchen isn't so tidy at the minute! :red:
Timmy...screws are down the fixings isle (screws, nails etc). I deffo recommend those black ones. I haven't bothered with a terminal block on this box though. I've routed cable via the port. Seen some other's who've done this, think it's a good idea.
If I decide to mount the sub inverted, I won't need one either.....and it's one less bit of cutting to do.
I still can't believe your store won't cut your panels for you.....that's terrible service. The bloke in our local B&Q Warehouse is very helpful....knows who I am now, lol. He looks like a terrorist, but he's cool. :D

Everything else is in, Chameleons are in, box is ready to go in too! Only it's started to rain again, lol.... :cheese:
Should've taken pics of the internal bracing, they may have been useful.
puggie 15-01-2004, 08:52 PM That is a damn big box, what volume is it and what size is the port? Very tidy I must say. I only build boxes in the kitchen while the Mrs is away with work :D
Blade 15-01-2004, 08:55 PM Very cool buddy... Looks like a top job, will look forward to hearing it :)

2.6cu'ft @ 28Hz m8. :)
I really should tidy up the kitchen a bit before she gets back from work, it looks like Beirut. :shake:
Blade 15-01-2004, 09:15 PM And you should know... I guess you've been there! ;)
Bibby 15-01-2004, 09:16 PM Think I just gave myself a hernia getting it into the boot.... :chunks:
mini_basser 15-01-2004, 10:06 PM Should have asked someone for help :p Dont wanna go crippling yourself so you cant drive the car and feel the IDMAX bass ;)

James M 15-01-2004, 11:57 PM your pleased then :)
deano vw 16-01-2004, 12:28 AM roll on T9 i wanna hear it!! :D
that was an impressive score you got on the meter with the single 10" Bibby, if thats anything to go by this IDMax bass-end should be a barnstormer :D
Bibby 16-01-2004, 12:31 AM I can't really give constructive comment until it (and the Chameleons) has run in. But....
The way I have my setup, I don't take my HU volume past 40 on it's scale. When I'm driving about, I usually listen to it between 30 and 40.
As I'm running in the mids and sub, I didn't go past 25 today, and won't do for a week or so. Usually, bass is pretty much non-existent as this level when driving, as the 5-pot 2.2 coupled with Pipercross filter & rather fat Powerflow exhaust generate incredibly low rumblings. Even with all the soundproofing, when driving, you have to crank it up really. Well, I do anyway. I sometimes regret having a deep rumbly exhaust...
I digress....where was I....
Erm, yeah....anyway, it wasn't long before I was expleting comments like "what the f***...." when the car was being filled with low-end loveliness, even at such a (normally) low listening level. This thing drops!!! And I haven't even turned it up yet!!! And it's not even run in yet!!! And the thing was hardly moving!!!
I pulled into my garage, popped the boot, thinking I'll have a gander at how it's moving, thinking it must be going in & out like a c**k on a honeymoon, but no.....it was hardly moving at all. In fact, I had to get a closer look just to see if the thing was moving at all.
I am really really really looking forward to opening up the Fusion on this thing. I think I may well attain my goal, of having that feeling of pencils getting pushed into your ears. :)
mini_basser 16-01-2004, 12:36 AM LMAO, very nice first review :) A strange feeling, the old pencil one...
I hope to hear your setup sometime soon: wont be at L5 but I hope you are at T9/10 :D Will most definitely have to beg for a listen..
M:B
Bibby 16-01-2004, 12:37 AM I won't be at L5 either m8, but I will be at t9 & t10, already booked time off. :)
James M 16-01-2004, 12:43 AM put me down for a listen chap :)
No3ntry 16-01-2004, 12:47 AM how much was that sub ?
and how well would it run in a smaller enclosure ?
Speak to Matt ( TB3 ) about the IDMAX, he has ALL the answers :D
Glad your happy with it Bibby, It's nice when something goes right for a change :)
Bibby 16-01-2004, 02:40 PM how well would it run in a smaller enclosure ?
I have no clue No Clue.......hehehe. :shiny: As CBR says, speak to TB3, although I'm sure someone had one for sale in their sig.
Took the missus to work this morning. Any excuse to drive at the moment, need to run the kit in as fast as poss. :)
On the way, we listened to A-Ha (no laughing at the back) and some Fleetwood Mac.
The same as yesterday....bottom end was like, wow. I can't get over how much bass there is at such low level. I really can't see how this thing will take the full 1000rms. I still haven't gone past 25 on the volume scale.
On the way back....my favourite Drum'n'Bass album goes in. Dieselboy's Project Human.
Remember, volume at 25, and I usually drive with it between 30 and 40.
I had to turn down the bass level on the head units EQ for the 1st time. Ever. :wow:
I have no clue No Clue.......hehehe. :shiny: As CBR says, speak to TB3, although I'm sure someone had one for sale in their sig.
Alrightbrow has one for sale, I'll try and find a link
HERE (http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=54510)
Bibby, glad you like it, it's nice someone has realised that these things aren't pure sq, they are very loud pure sq. These Max's are designed to go very loud, but more importantly, they are designed to use every bit of power available as effectively as possible, so low power is still damn impressive :)
No Clue, have a look at the Diary of an IDMAX thread, in this exercise the max is in a 1.3cuft box, which is pretty small :) They still drop extremely low in boxes as small as 0.9cuft.......ID actually descrie them as 'Competition SQ, Ultra High SPL, Small Enclosure Sub'...i think it does what it says on the box :)
