View Full Version : Sub bass competing
mini_basser 11-01-2004, 11:39 PM Following on from something mentioned by Firestarter/deanovw/React Systems in the Streetbass - Definition thread...
Why is there not more low tuning in SPL comps? What would need to be done for a "sub 40Hz" class to be made? Is it feasible?

Mr Bump 11-01-2004, 11:42 PM Perfectly feasable.
There are classes in SPL formats that are not run in the UK that have music and lower freq limits.
The reason you dont get it in most comps is because higher freqs are louder. dB Drag has an 80 hz limit for multi point events so people tend to play under that. IDBL has no written limit I can find.
Ben
mini_basser 12-01-2004, 12:39 AM Thats kind of what I was thinking: as higher tends to go louder, why would people bother playing lower (though its more fun!)
Do you know of any reason why they dont run such classes here? Could it be do with a compratively limited car audio competition scene than other countries?

There are people suggesting it, a street class with a 40hz limit or a "music" class but i doubt it will happen :)
Mr Bump 12-01-2004, 01:31 AM Theres no such classes in dB Drag or in IDBL.
At some shows in the past there has been "entertainment"
Be it port wars, death match or even a loudest combined doors closed and doors shut.
At the moment there just isnt anyway of running a full "low" class, be it because of competitor numbers or class ruling.
But then low can still be loud. Look at Am, well over 160 at about 30 something hz. If he tuned higher im sure mid 160s wudnt be a problem.
Ben
whats death match all about? is it when you see who can last the longest without any failure of equipment or something?
Mr Bump 12-01-2004, 01:53 AM Death match is loudest average score over a set time.
World record is 167+ by the Timanji over 5 minutes.
Oh and that was engine off ;)

Mr Bump 12-01-2004, 02:05 AM All the Finnish cars compete engine off :p
Just proves what a good battery supply they have :D
Ben
firestarter 12-01-2004, 02:28 AM One day dbdrag will drop its freq limit, as it is recognised by everyone its too high. I dont believe it will drop lower than 60Hz though for SS, but to be honest, the Firestarter van was tuned to 62Hz, and still sounded fine on Music :)
nooooo......................dont lower it to 60 i would be stuffed LMAO!!!!!!!!!!
we shall see what has to be done!
Mr Bump 12-01-2004, 02:53 AM You stuffed, what about us, we tune mid 70s LOL
Cant see it being lowered just yet, fingers crossed.

Freaking hell  Do you know where I can find some info on that vehicle/beast?
Thanks for all the frequency limit info people :)

deano vw 12-01-2004, 03:10 AM yeah nice one for explaining the limit info chaps :)

You wont find any pics of the inside tho.
All the Finnish cars have a very secretive box/cabin/dash design.
Ben
mini_basser 12-01-2004, 04:20 AM Oh its THAT car :) Seen the pic before, and about how they dont let people see inside. Interesting that is... Didnt know they won a deathmatch
M:B
James M 12-01-2004, 05:30 AM that is one mental car :wow:
Blinkybill 12-01-2004, 01:54 PM I think they should leave the limit as it is tbh.
A lower limit would mean lots and lots of cars having the redseign and build there systems.
Cars wont be as loud.
Why change somthing when it is'nt broke.
I think 80hertz is good because is'nt that were bass ends and mid-bass starts ?
And one minor thing, i would be bollicked :)
