I don't know a great deal about ICE but am attemptin settin up my first system on my mk4 'scort. currently running Alpine head unit on standard speakers and lookin to invest in an amp and subs first.
Was gunna go all out alpine with r series subs and 6x9's along with alpine amp but altho i hear they are good they a tad expensive and also look ****.
the blaupunkt's caught my eye and seem pretty reasonably priced, can anyone give me any feedback about them because i aint ever heard of them before.

fist of all stay away from 6x9's int he back, trust me on this one

tbh look sin my opinion dont come inot it, it it sounds good use it, fit good quality comps up front off a amp & 2 12's sommat liek that int he boot and your laughing

as much as i like blaupunkt i dont really liek the look of there speaker line as in my opinion there aimed at the kev market

what sort of budget do you have?

6x9s and subs dont mix too well.

Get subs and an amp and upgrade the front speakers rather than buying the 6x9s, a much better package.

really? i would of instinctively done the sub + 6x9 combination, why is it exactly it don't mix well?
And im on a budget of about 300 pnds but i don't want to go too cheap, i obviously don't expect to kit out an entire system for that money but piece it together bit by bit.

if you give us a budget and what you want out of a system (dont jsut say loud) we can help you

but really 6x9's are nto needed, good amped comps up front and even one good sub int he boot will give you a good sounding (ie not ott treble and distorting bass that the majority of max power readsers consider good) system

right the first thing i would say is get a amp and front comps then add the bass later

what sort of music do you listen to

looking for clarity with good high and low frequencies, lots of deep bass without creating loads of distortion like you say..
and of course loud :cheese:

right for that £300 you could get fantastic front components and a good 2ch amp then jsut add a mono amp and a sub at a later date

dont forget to budget for wiring and sound dedening

sounds good although without going against what you advised i would really like to get my sub/s to start with, and continue to run my standard front and rear speakers until i can afford the front components and an additional amp. my head unit has 2 pre-amp outputs but i did hope to add an external EQ later on also

Basically 6x9s and subs dont mix too well because 99% of the time they are installed in a way that they both fire into the same air space, the boot.

When a sub fires into the boot its ok and when a 6xp fires into the boot its ok but put them in the same car firing into the same boot and you have problems.

The sub is forcing air into the boot, lots of air, the 6x9s are trying to force air into the boot but have less power than the sub so the sub wins. This means the sub air is pushing on the bottom of the 6x9s cones, slowing them going down an thus interfering with the sound.

Eventually the sub/subs will kill the 6x9s because of the amount of force on them and the fact the force is working in the opposing direction that the 6x9s want to work.

There are solutions but in all honesty the 6x9s are not really worth it, spend money on front comps for a much better sound.

lol damn i didn't realize it was that complex, i will avoid the 6x9 + sub like the plague, should i just keep my 2 standard rear speakers running off the unit then?

yea that should just about fit in the 300quid mark

mate top man for leaving the 6x9s i done this and i got top results :D leaving the holes as bass ports so it can get into the cabin for a sub look at the resonance enginnering range on cad garenteed to impress

Spliff: you could check out THIS (click me) (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/default.php?cPath=12_14&&received_mfg=0:35+1:36+2:37+) page and pick one of the amps you like the look/price of (they are all pretty similar on features and respected budget brands around these parts ;)) If it were me, I would go with the Mac Attack 4081 as this puts out the most power and is within your budget

You can then run 2ch of the amp bridged to a sub of your choice. Again you can check out the CAD pages for 10" and 12". Personally I would try something like Magnat XTC1200 or Pioneer TS-W121SPL- both are very capable subs for the cash

Dont forget to budget a few notes for cabling now. Then you can save up another £100 or so for front speakers as soon as you can ;)

Hope that helps :)

I would say get a decent 2 chanel amp and a sub now. Bridge the amp to drive the sub. This will make far more difference than adding comps. The factory speakers will sound better with a sub running with them. Especially if you can high pass them from the head unit (is there a built in filter on your head unit?)

You can upgrade to a mono block and add extra subs to this later if required. This would free up the 2 channel amp to drive your components when you buy them.

In order...

2 ch amp and sub
comps
monobock amp
extra subs

that way you can do it on a budget item by item and not waste any cash.

(agree with everybody else on the 6x9 thing too)

Oh, I used Blaupunkt speakers a while ago and found them rather "lifeless" sounding.
