View Full Version : upside down subs!? dalebeech 10-01-2004, 08:38 PM what is the benifit of having the subs inverted , ie so you can see all the connections? does affect the life of the sub, and is the sound different? cheers deano vw 10-01-2004, 08:39 PM you can make the box smaller as the sub isnt taking any space up inside the box as to the sound, no idea sorry :red: James M 10-01-2004, 08:41 PM I have been told by many people on TA that it makes no difference to the sound however Am said the XXX sounds better mounted arse in but it could depend on what sub your running Rich-UK 10-01-2004, 09:26 PM My sub's inverted due to it not fitting in my box and it sounds fine and looks cool too. I'm sure their's a slight difference in sound quality, but it's negligable. I very much doubt it affects the life of the sub. Onnie 10-01-2004, 09:30 PM some say it is slightly deeper sounding but to me it sounds the same, i had to do it cos my box is very shallow but if u got a nice shiny magnet it looks  on some subs they have very noisy backvents, so its possible u might be able to hear that, and some subs have a wierd lip on the basket so they wont sit totally flush which is essential for a good seal to the box, but other than that its perfectly safe.. EDIT: actually u could argue its better cos the subs vent is on the outside it has a good supply to cooler air so in turn keeping its voicecoil temperature slightly cooler. tej 10-01-2004, 11:38 PM i heard somewhere that you loose a little SPL too, due to the motor being in the way, and maybe due to the slight reduction in cone area? cannondale99 11-01-2004, 05:02 AM however Am said the XXX sounds better mounted arse in but it could depend on what sub your running Possibly due to motor noise...... mick@CDT UK 12-01-2004, 02:00 AM arse out subs tend to sound poorer for a few reasons one you reduce the area of the sub (sd) due to the frame and magnet shadowing the cone, you also get noise from the pole and frame when driven hard and alot of people get the polarity wrong . VD 12-01-2004, 02:46 AM although sub polarity in itself is not really that much of an issue always. Jonny-SXI 12-01-2004, 02:53 AM quick one - did you get my pm mr dave ??? sfh 14-01-2004, 05:43 AM sd of woofer is the same as always...? its just inside the box........? :) Matt 14-01-2004, 05:50 AM LOL, I've never been able to tell the difference myself, but I know of a few subs that are generlly advised against mounting a.ss out :) |
