InnoVision 10-01-2004, 05:42 AM Right I need to decide what sub im going to choose for my forthcoming streetbass setup.
This is going in the boot of a saxo so there isnt much room, about 3 - 3.5cu ft when displacement etc is taken into account.
It has to be a 15"
I`ll have 2.5kw to play with so it has to have very high thermal and mechanical limits.
The limit on cash is £450
At the moment i`m looking at either RE xxx or an Orion H2 although the orion is slightly in the lead at the moment.
Any other suggestions
deano vw 10-01-2004, 05:44 AM this was the same problem i was faced with, around 2.5kw and what to do with it
the main thing which gave me my deciding vote is that if you put that sort of power through a XXX you say bye-bye to the warranty
InnoVision 10-01-2004, 05:46 AM That is what is swinging my vote towards the orion at the moment as providing I`m sensible with the gains then in theory the warrenty should stay in tact
mini_basser 10-01-2004, 06:02 PM Im pretty sure the H2s are rated at between 2kw-2.5kw depending on box? So yeh, if you didnt want to mess with a XXX warranty, the H2 may be a better bet
Im sure there are other subs that can take 2.5kw? DD? Not sure if the 3515 will take that much

Blinkybill 11-01-2004, 01:48 AM If u wont DD go for the 95 series, but then u look at the price :(
Get the orion mate, u have options of what coils u can go for the get max power, and i think is abit more suited to streetbass really haveing heard Blades :)
zimsoundz 11-01-2004, 03:01 AM the orion will do you proud my son :raz: .. BUT i must stress to you, that with 2.5kw, u'll get it to smell if you pound it ! but by then it will be moving loads, and should be loud :) i had a pair for a short while, and liked em ;)
puggie 11-01-2004, 03:27 AM Orion H2 would be great, big coils, big gap and loads of motor cooling so can take big power. You will need to use a small box to prevent overexcursion with that kind of power.
InnoVision 11-01-2004, 03:52 AM I must say a DD would be awsome but the price is a little to high for me.I`m 99.9% decided on the Orion unless something spectacular comes up in the near future.Ive been playing with box designs in win isd.At the moment I`m puting in the recomended size(2.5cu/ft) and tuning frequency(32hz) but it seems really peaky to me + 6db @ 51hz,any suggestions?
Mr Bump 11-01-2004, 03:55 AM Bigger box, try 3 cubes before displacments.
Ben
InnoVision 11-01-2004, 04:38 AM ok just been out and measured my boot. From my calculations the biggest box i can fit without having a perfect rectangle is 4.1cu/ft.When you take driver and port displacement into account im down to just under 3.5cu/ft.However this is still peaky, +4.8db @ 47hz.With the box tuned to 28hz.I cant make the box any bigger as im at the pysical limitations of the boot
Mr Bump 11-01-2004, 04:45 AM How peaky is peaky tho?
Is it a hump or more of a point? Does it rise up to 47 then slowly drop down or straight up and straight down again?
Ben
InnoVision 11-01-2004, 04:50 AM Its a pretty smooth hump granted,It rolls off down to 0db @30hz i was just expecting a flatter curve than what im getting
Mr Bump 11-01-2004, 04:53 AM What about 47 upwards?
How does it go the other way?
Ben
InnoVision 11-01-2004, 04:57 AM It rolls off very gently above 47 reaching odb @ around 500hz although it will be low passed on the amp at around 55-60hz.This is this first ported box ive design as you can probably tell so any advice you give me is greatly appreiciated
