zabe_1 09-01-2004, 08:10 AM hey guys, my system is gonna be following
apline 9815 rb
re hc 12"
focal utopia comps
nemesis
ppi a600.2
now just wanting to know a few things, im gonna put 2kw into the hc, it in a ported box, 2.6 cubes, with a 28hz tuning, or 29hz tuning, cant remember now, lol
one thing is, what level show the low pass filter be set to on the nemesis. Im not too sure as i aint had a proper system before. Nova_guy was saying to me he sets his at a quarter, as he feels the high bass notes sound hasrh to him, however he esaid if u like em, u can move it all the way to half..
but im not really sure to be honest...
do u guys filter out the high bass notes, or keep em in...
thx
zabe_1 09-01-2004, 08:17 AM "the filter is personal preferance really...if you like high 60-70hz bass
then turn it up to maybe half...if you dont like it then turn it down...i
personally have mine at around 1/4 cos i tihnk the high bass sounds a tad
harsh"
nova_guy told me this, wat ya guys opinion oh 60-70hz bass, good or bad....let me know as i aint got a clue....when everythings installed and stuf, can u just change the gains about, i presumeu do this when everything is off, i spose that way u can tell whether u like it or not..anyone know a song which u can use to test the bass and see what way u like, high bass included or not inlcluded..
im thinking include it,as then u get MORE BASS..lol..or do u..lol
help!
Loudboy 09-01-2004, 08:17 AM If I remember correctly the Filter goes up to 200Hz. So you would want to set it to atleast below Half. So you would be setting to below 100Hz. Probably nearer to a quarter as in theory that would be about 50Hz.
Hope thats a help.
Loudboy.
zabe_1 09-01-2004, 08:24 AM cool...so do u not listen to the high bass either, see i dont really have much experience, so looking for as much info about my system, lol..getting installed on 13th, lol..but cant wait to hear it..lol....best BASSEy system i hear before is 1 alpine type r sub, with i think 250rms, lol, and 2 sets of 6*9's,
lol what will mine be like in comparison, i probably would have done the same if i hadnt discovered this place..lol
thx

I had 8 of the Nemesis amp's running 2 XXX 18's. The system was set up for SPL so played loudest at 60+ Hz. But also sounded good playing music. I think I had them set at 200Hz as I was running active through a EPX.
Good luck with your system.

zabe_1 09-01-2004, 08:32 AM 8, oof..lol thats a lot...haha think ill set mine at 50hz, and see what it sounds like when i move it upa bit...only way to find out what it sounds like i guess...
vegabass 09-01-2004, 08:27 PM A guide is to set it to about 80hz (don't worry it doesn't have to be bang on as it's hard to be exact). Play a few different songs, some rock, some hip hop, some dance, all from a few different artists to get a few different types of bass. If the bass seems a bit 'warm' (too much of the high stuff, perhaps making the sound a bit boomy or bloated) then lower the LPF. If however it seems a bit lacking in bass overall, then it may be that the LPF is set too low and is cutting too much bass.
Blade 09-01-2004, 08:58 PM You should really use the LPF filter, to ensure that the bass setup your runnning will integrate with your front-end correctly
For example, if you run 3way upfront, playing effectively down to about 60hz, you can afford to set the LPF to around this level also, and this will ensure you won't get and gaps in frequency reproduction. On the same note, if your stuck running a set of 4" comps up from, your rear end bass install will really need to play a little higher, to avoid losing out on some of the lower midbassy stuff
Oh, and don't forget to use a sobsonic filter in that ported box :)
zabe_1 09-01-2004, 10:05 PM subsonic filter, not sure what that is....could u let me know please...
mini_basser 09-01-2004, 10:16 PM subsonic filter, not sure what that is....could u let me know please...
Stops the really really low stuff from cooking the sub :) Like 20Hz for example. At that level, the support of the air inside the box is much less than above tuning, so the sub can/will over excurt - its called "unloading" (especailly with 2kw, could get dangerous!)

Blade 09-01-2004, 10:26 PM Subsonic filter is a HPF you should also use, when running a ported box design
zabe_1 10-01-2004, 12:28 AM i didnt know about this, where can i get one from, will need to get one asap, are they available in maplins and stuff, and how much do they costs, and wher do u fit em..thx
