whats the most you've ever hit?
i hit 130db(pretty cr4p) at T8 with two Vibe VP2s(rated 300wrms EACH) on my SE on the old audiocontrol mics which was supposedly 5db down
and 134.2db on the new term lab mic with the RF 500bd(740w rms on birthsheet) on the SE which equates to over 140db on the old mic
hoping for 136 at least with the Fusion(rated at 1250wrms, probably not gonna use any more than 1kw though) on new mics :)
Blade 09-01-2004, 03:37 AM Nice results there Tej! :)
My highest has been 148.7dB in the current sealed setup on the Term-Lab mics, but with scoping the amp, phase correction, expanding foaming and deadening, it seems a good deal louder than back when the metering was done, and I'd be confident of doing a little over 150dB with things as they are
James M 09-01-2004, 04:20 AM 1.5kw low tuned box, I really have no idea mate :)
Gringo 09-01-2004, 04:22 AM 144.7 with a RE XXX15 in a pretty cack 4.5 cuft box tuned to 32(ish) hz with 1 Directed 1100d on it. That was on the old mics.
Glenn
-SuperiorSounds- 09-01-2004, 04:23 AM in theory or in practice?
in practice an easy 150+ with my thecert weapon of choithe and 2.5k ;)
in practice? 0db  (bit like tej......135db? i can fart louder than that :D)
bassmechanic 09-01-2004, 04:29 AM 137.2 on new mics, at same time it was showing as 147 on my epic 150
got a funny feeling that may increase when next tested :D
bit like tej......135db? i can fart louder than that :D
notice how i hit a lot louder when i WASNT using your cd :p
James M 09-01-2004, 04:31 AM how do you decied what frequency to use?
148.3dB with 2 sealed *splx square 12's* and a vp4! that was a 1 of on a testing day reguarly over 146dB though in competition.
with my current VP4 and HC 12 ported at 53hz i hit a 147.4dB in an iasca competition
all on old mics.
dunno what ill be aiming at next 2 hc 12's and 2 nemessis amps want at least 150dB (old mic reading) or even new mics would be nice lol
how do you decied what frequency to use?
i played music in the first spl run i did, and the song had a frequency that was too low to get a good score on :(
the second time round i played a sweep from 30-80hz, and found out my system peaks at 42hz :) so il probably burp it at that frequency next time round ;)
James M 09-01-2004, 04:41 AM I really wouldn't mind having a go at this as I'm curious
Ruckus 09-01-2004, 04:44 AM 148db in comp
151db in testing on my epic
both at 45hz nice and street bass for your arze
Thats with two 15's and a singel 1000 watts amp.. (see sig)
mini_basser 09-01-2004, 05:27 AM how do you decied what frequency to use?
In an ideal world you need to map the transfer function of the car (if its not in the FAQ, I might be tempted to do one :D Despite not having done the test myself...hmm)
Anyway, it involves finding where the SPL reading peaks by taking measurements from inside and outside the car over a range of frequencies. The biggest difference is the one to burp at
Apparently most small hatchbacks resonant frequency is somewhere in the high 50Hz's (walled cars it is higher due to the smaller airspace, so I have been told), hence why the hardcore SPL lot like Team DumZim burp at 70Hz or so :)
HTH somewhat

Resonant frequency isnt always best for SPL ;)
Do you really think the Mini in a No Wall set up really has an RF of 70+hz
RF does mean you get the maximum cabin gain but unfortunately you also get maximum vibration/panel movement which saps SPL :clown:
Ben
zimsoundz 09-01-2004, 06:56 AM lol @ ur comment M:B :)
as mr ben said, times are changing and spl cars are being made to burp at higher freq's than before !
but in general, if you asked how to find where you're loudest, we'd say start in the mid 50's and try up and down in 1Hz intervals to see what's loudest.
Buff - look forward to seeing / hearing your car again when we come over next :raz:
G
cheers Zim.
so do i!!!!
a few of us maybe venturing across the water to the like of donny perhaps as well.

Loudboy 09-01-2004, 08:11 AM My all time Loudest score is 164.5 dB in the Volvo. That was when we was over in Belfast.
The loudest we have had out of the Mini to date is 151.3 dB on the new mic's in the euro finals. But the setup that we had then is no more.
But it will be back soon. :raz: Bigger and better and hopefully hell of a lot LOUDER. :beam:
Would like to see the mini hit mid 150's on new mic's. Never know might even be more. ;)
I look forward to the season ahead and I'm sure we will see some big numbers. There should be a lot of new installs about as well.
Loudboy.

Yeh I kind of realised that after Id posted it: remember you saying before you you are normally burp a bit above RF
Apologies
M:B
Andy@React 09-01-2004, 02:30 PM I have got 141.6 (termlab) and 147.8 (audiocontrol) with 2 off Pioneer TS-W121SPL and 1100watts @ 37Hz.
Also, I have got 141.6 (termlab) and 147.8 (audiocontrol) with 1 off Pioneer TS-W121SPL and 1200watts @ 52Hz.
Strange, but true! :)

Youre almost there MB, when using the cabin rise and tuning to around the cars RF you normally burp a few hz higher than you tune to.
Im on about tuning 20 or more hz higher.
Forget about burping outside the car, we dont need to know about the gain between the 2 environments. What we need to know is just how high we have to tune with our box/port design until we stop gaining dB. Then you have to change box/port and test again. Then compare all the results, see which box/port combo is loudest under the 80 hz limit.
We gained 6 dB+ with out first box design in the mini and im sure we can gain even more just by doing small changes to the box/port.
Ben

that IS odd
mini_basser 09-01-2004, 05:01 PM Thank for you for that Mr Bump :D Again, I think Im running before I can walk...:err:

Bibby 09-01-2004, 06:44 PM 135db @ 37Hz, Mk1 on Termpro mic.
Single RFD2210 10" sub in my own vented enclosure, in a saloon.
Don't have the sub anymore, I've replaced it with an idmax v3d4.....which will be installed when I get my car fixed next week.

The reading inside the car and outside the car is a very valuable tool for finding the point of maximum cabin gain.
Unfortunately it isnt always the loudest frequency for the car.
With lower amounts of power this maybe the most effective frequency but when we are talking about a few thousand watts up each sub you can normally push the subs past the usefullness of the cabin gain and burp at a much more higher and thus more productive frequency.
The higher the frequency the better, the higher the RF of the car the better aswell. Unfortunately theres not many cars that have an RF of 65+ and i only know of one in the 70s.
Ben
Andy@React 09-01-2004, 08:36 PM ive hit 155dB and 147dB at the same time! :D and at 47Hz
thats the loudest i have managed with this set-up, i think 1dB-ish could be gained with a few tweeks...
but a few tweeks arn't gonna happen, its all change soon i think! ;)
Andrew.
Blade 09-01-2004, 08:43 PM that IS odd
Why is that odd Andrew?
Seems pretty straightforward...
First result was much lower as far as frequency was concerned, and it took 2 subs to do do that reading... It took higher tuning, and a higher peak (oh, and slightly more power) to do the same result with a single sub... seems to make sence
Woosey 09-01-2004, 09:04 PM 137db with a selead w3 with 400rms (or less;) ) on old mic of course
Migroo 09-01-2004, 09:32 PM I hit 139.9 dB at T7 with two six-year-old 12" subs and 700W RMS :) (sealed)
Mart@BassJunkies 09-01-2004, 09:41 PM 137.somthink
ive got an epic 160 coming maybe some better comps ill be upgrading all cables pretty soon so maybe 145+ next time i get metered with a bit of luck
Blinkybill 10-01-2004, 12:35 AM Will find out when i pick my TermLab up on Monday :D
But i got 112.6dB and 146.9dB. Both are first boxes and i am sure could get more with a few tweeks, which is what i plan, the aim is the get best i can with this gear :)
Mega Heavy Bass 10-01-2004, 01:08 AM 153.2dB
164.4dB from another source...
...Bet that`s got you all thinking ;)
iceke 11-01-2004, 12:52 AM with my old setup in peugeot 306 i did 147dB on old meters with a single 12" dls X12 and a rf punch 500.2
today in my coupé 406 trunkcar i hit 141.4 dB in a sq box with single XXX15 and 1600rms on new termlab meter
but thats just the beginning.......
grtz iceke
Mr Bump 11-01-2004, 12:55 AM 141 on TP in a 406 coupe is very impressive in my eyes.
Especially an SQ box.
Ben
James M 11-01-2004, 12:55 AM how much is a termlab mic and associated things you need for SPL readings
Mr Bump 11-01-2004, 01:04 AM The cheaper TP set-up is currently $599 USD.
$599 + P&P = $650 or £353
£353 + VAT + Import = roughly £456
This is one mic and reads 180dB, which works on a PC via a USB port.
More info is here http://www.termpro.com/storefront/page600.asp

zimsoundz 11-01-2004, 03:04 AM thats the one that we (Dumzim) have :) .... it's a lot of money for something that just records bass - no eq on this model :( .... but we're sick of biulding a car(s) and going in blind !
Don't forget, you'll also need a laptop to go with it.
Btw scores so far : 154.9 - single stroker 18
155.5 - single DD, but box was completely wrong !
157.1 - 2 x Orion H2's.
G
James M 11-01-2004, 05:17 AM got the laptop already, its a fair bit of cash for something that just reads db as you said but it would be good to have as any changes I made I could tell straight away if there was any improvement
zimsoundz 11-01-2004, 05:56 AM but it would be good to have as any changes I made I could tell straight away if there was any improvement

deano vw 11-01-2004, 05:57 AM wish u could have got my system metered, not gonna get the chance now - it starts leaving me piece-by-piece tomorrow

because they make SPL systems, VERY few people in the UK would make a one note wonder street system, MOST people in the UK want to listen to music on a street system :)
and they test test test, and test a bit more :D

We want a European beating system ;)
Its not just money tho.
Choice of car and design of box is the biggest factor.
Amps and subs are not huge factors but are important. Batteries are a big thing.
The most important thing is a comparable mic and lots of testing, with of course a scope, a multimeter and a clamp meter.
Dont aim to be the best in one season, its taken us a good 3 years of serious SPL to get to the level we are at and we are still learning alot.

You say its not all money: TL mic = £400, scope = £80?, remaking boxes = shares in MDF company, oil tanker batteries = several 100 £, old Mini = not too much ;)
Thats before amps and subs! And then time...
Anyhoo, lets stop hijacking this thread :D

db_saxo 14-04-2004, 06:22 PM whoehoe did 151.7 last sunday

Mega Heavy Bass 15-04-2004, 12:01 AM dB Saxo.
Is that the system you told me about?
:wow:
So that system is only .1dB from the Highest Score in Street C this year, then?
Can I be bold and ask what Car it`s in?
Mr Bump 15-04-2004, 07:29 AM Begins with P has an A at the end and AND in the middle ;)
Street C scores will be 155+ within a coulple of weeks, 157+ at the end of the year.
dB Saxo is in Street B and was just of the WR, its now gone upto 153.8dB IIRC
Ben
Mega Heavy Bass 15-04-2004, 08:04 AM Thanks Ben.
Those cars should be banned :p :)
Now if I could fit my Escort system in a FP...
157dB In Street C by the end of the year :wow:
If I had to do that in my car I guess I`d need about 15 to 20.000wrms:(
Mr Bump 15-04-2004, 08:14 AM Its not all about power though.
Alot isnt always good.
More power means you need a bigger box, which means a bigger port, which means you have less space.
Its a vicious circle, you need to find the best solution for your car and your equipment.
Just incase anyones interested the Street A WR is 151.*, a pair of 9910s and one EXT 2000d amp. Single battery under the bonnet, all in the boot of a Panda.
Ben
Blade 15-04-2004, 08:26 AM because they make SPL systems, VERY few people in the UK would make a one note wonder street system, MOST people in the UK want to listen to music on a street system :)
I would like to do a full on SPL car, but just can't justify putting together a system that won't play music... :(
Mr Bump 15-04-2004, 08:29 AM It can be done, our Volvo wasnt "full on" SPL but it wasnt far off.
Interchangeable ports for tuning from 34 to 60+ hz.
Had a fully active front end, EPX2 and 4 Genny amps.
Ben
Blade 15-04-2004, 08:42 AM But it was walled though... You try port plugging a system like that when the whole thing is in the boot... I couldn't see a way to do it for my install... The low tuned port is 3-feet long... :(
