View Full Version : Am i streetbass?
Woosey 09-01-2004, 01:46 AM run spl dynamics 12" D4 in a 2.2 Cuft ported box ported to 32hz, being powered by a JL 500/1 (600-740rms)
am i classed at street bass do you think?
any tips as im new to this streetbass lark ;)
my subsonic is set to 25hz @ 24db slope, is this too high?
thanks
chris
Andy@React 09-01-2004, 02:25 AM maybe... but only just! i think i was just pushin street bass status when i had my DD 3512 in 4 cubes tuned to 35 Hz...
Andrew.
my subsonic is set to 25 at the mo, and imo its too high.. it just filters out the car shaking lows albeit only a little bit
but i dont wanna lower it just yet, cos i might just cook the sub! after a couple mins of test tones you can smell the coils cooking!
Blade 09-01-2004, 02:28 AM I should say so dude, based ont he conversation we had the other day, and the listening tastes I know you have :)
I should say the subsonic is just fine where it is, lowering it will risk damaging the sub dude :)
zimsoundz 09-01-2004, 04:23 AM it depends what you class as streetbass..no offence, but there's a slight difference between your car and Am / Jamie's Nova / Ray's BM / K+M etc...they are fit my class as streetbass ! (Insane and its hurts)
James M 09-01-2004, 04:23 AM would I qualify as Street Bass?
EDIT - just read your post Zim, I would think not :red:
imo, streetbass is just low and loud(louder bass in proportion to front end)
i dont think it needs to be crazy loud..
my first setup was less than 200w rms, and imo, even that was streetbass :)
Mystical Sound 09-01-2004, 06:16 AM When i had my JL 15"-W3, it was in a box designed for streetbass... tuned to 35Hz/4.5c^f with 1000wrms.... imo i think streetbass is something you can hear response at the other end of your typical 'tescos' car park.. well thats where i went when i set my gains up, my bro went into tesco's and said he could hear my sub... I didn't really get to listen to my sub outside the car until i sold it, wish i hadn't now :(
zimsoundz 09-01-2004, 06:50 AM EDIT - just read your post Zim, I would think not :red:
just my opinion....didn't say it was right.

yup i agree G, i hope to be in the clan soon too
zimsoundz 09-01-2004, 07:29 AM yep...having heard your car, i dont think it'll be long till you are even louder ;)

geee............you must have a realk quality sub there tej
woosey - on a light hearted note i would say that you are as much of a streetbasser as i am a bus. :D on a serious note i would say this - ARE YOU YOURSELF HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE? if you are, and i must admit i did like the SPLDynamics sub when i listened to it at MiltonK, then i think you have a half decent street bassy install.
to me there's street bass and there's crazy street bass and its all relative, depending on what you've been used to eg. if you have 4 x 12's as a daily driver then to you streetbass wouldnt mean much with one 12 and 500RMS. but if you have had, say, one or two subs, then one good sub with decent power (600RMS+) is quite street bassy i would have said.
take note ya'll - for a reference on how NOT to do streetbass, i invite you all to take a look at this members profile ;) :p

Migroo 09-01-2004, 04:25 PM Does it really matter though, what you are?

im pretty sure you was one of the people who said the SE wouldnt take a Kw, but it seems to be doing fine :p
ps. petrol money has suddenly bumped up to £40 if you still want that lift to reading :p :p  :D
-SuperiorSounds- 09-01-2004, 04:49 PM im pretty sure you was one of the people who said the SE wouldnt take a Kw, but it seems to be doing fine :p
yeh it can take a k, but in a PROPER BOX, not something which plays only odd frequencies and has gaps big enough to fit a dinner for four into  (or that the port? :D :clown: )
all ill add is that a dd3512 could take a kw all day everyday, so :p
and im not even talking 95 tej ;)

lmao! its not actually the box(well, not completely), its just teh lack of midbass from teh 4" comps :red: which arent so bad now with the extra power, but it sounds better now(you can have a listen when i see you)
and how much exactly is a brand new dd3512??? if you look at the similar priced subs, i dont think theres anything that can compete with an SE for that money :p i'd be suprised if an overpriced sub like the dd3512 couldnt take a Kw all day.. but so far, it looks like the SE can also :p and its less than half the price

i am going to PM so as to avoid opening up a can o worms dude :)
in other words im right, and your wrong, as usual :p j/k dude
Blade 09-01-2004, 05:15 PM I'm agree, and say that it is subjective... I used to be really impressed with my first install, and consider it street-bassy, but looking back, I don't think so any more
Jammi.l.]odG@ 09-01-2004, 05:22 PM I dont think I'll ever be street bass.
I'll **** all over your's for SQ I would pray though :p
In a little while. I literally just loaded my Credit Card up again with a DLS CA21, fuse blocks, wiring etc etc so I'll be bunging it all in for L5 and hoping that it all works.
Blade - find me at L5 I havnt heard ur Orion, if u still have it... and those SPXs are going in this weekend.
Blade 09-01-2004, 05:34 PM Of course I still have it dude! I'd love to get a listen to those Alpines too chap if that's alright :)
-SuperiorSounds- 09-01-2004, 05:46 PM in other words im right, and your wrong, as usual :p j/k dude
not at all. do a search and youll see that its been said before and even Am, who seems v.hard to please these days, agreed to, by saying 'yeh, spot on'.
dd6.5w = re 8 (not the best comparison as one's a mid and ones a teeny sub, nonetheless, both can do the low stuff well and the dd's can take waaaaaaay more power than rated - something foolish like 300RMS  for a mid :D)
2000 = se
3500 = hc
95 = xxx
99 = re have nothing that is at the equivalent as MT doesnt do music, 99 can :)
Jammi.l.]odG@ 09-01-2004, 05:50 PM Yeah but the 99 is silly money you guys!
But oh, how I want one...
Dig...ital... Desiiiiiiiiggggnnnnsss..... uggggghhhhh muuuusttt haaaaaavvvveeee
Its on my do before I die list. See how many 1100d or 1501bd or whatever FIT on a 99 series mofo....
puggie 09-01-2004, 06:09 PM My current setup with 2 12s is not Street bass IMHO, more SQL, (Blade and AndrewJ have hear it what do they think) I hope my new setup in the golf will be streetbass, 2X15s with plenty of power.
When does streetbass become a SPL setup, Is a high tuned (45Hz+) wall streetbass?
-SuperiorSounds- 09-01-2004, 06:23 PM My current setup with 2 12s is not Street bass IMHO, more SQL, (Blade and AndrewJ have hear it what do they think)
loud and clear (no association with JBL's $hite range you will of course understand chaps :D)
it went loud enough for normal enjoyable listening, staying v.clean with it too. it wont set alarms off or terrorise neighbours, so not street-bas-in-yer-face type of thing, but it was mainly installed for a more sq sound and thats precisely what we got :)
and i wasnt sure whether it was the woofers or the install, but the way they integrated and worked together with his mbquarts down in the kicks  amazing is all id say - set up or sub? which was it that made the difference billy boy? :D
Jammi.l.]odG@ 10-01-2004, 12:45 AM If I can make the windows in Bar Med shake and everyone looks at the car smiling as I drive round is that the street bit of the street bass??
Trouble is with my car unless the windows are open, the outside world can only hear about 1% of those inside - its SO airtight (within reason) its unbelievable.
Dont think I could ever get this car loud enough, the windows would blow out before it became loud outside the car. Its all SQ imo baby :D
