Soon be ordering my RE SE12"

Im not sure which box to go for ported or sealed.

To be honest not to sure the advantages and disadvantages.

i mean whats the difference between port and slotted port.

I want to get a good SQ but have it drop low and go reasonably loud. But probably the main factor is SQ

Ive got about 1.5 cubes to play with but can stretch to 2.5 if need be!

The SE will be geting about 650rms from a 500BD

Hmm....I suppose SQ folk would suggest a sealed enclosure but.....

....ported would be sweet! :D

Ported is generally louder. Slot or tube makes no odds really, not from my humble experiences anyway.

Tej runs his in a vented enclosure, and I think it's mighty fine. :)

I see,

if I went ported would I lose much SQ??

Erm......difficult to quantify really imo. I've found that my current sub in it's current vented enclosure sounds better now than it ever did in a sealed box.

But that's just me.

I suppose the only way for you to really decide which works best for you is to try vented and sealed with your sub in your car.

Ok i think i might go ported,

Sorry to sound du,b but I havent a clue about tuning frequncies and why people tune their subs to different frequencies.

Anyone got any links to a website with the science behind it!!!

Tej, what's your box tuned to m8!!!! :D

I would definitely agree: try ported and sealed so you can see which you prefer

I used to think ported was the only way to go, but things like Tims 10W7 and Blades H2 have kinda proven to me that thats wrong...

On anything short of those two, I love porting

:D

tuned to around 30hz (although according to winisd its 35hz!!)

i tell u, it DROPS! but i dont really think its upto it SQ wise, but thats cos i think the old SE's dont like tiny boxes like mine

i thnk the diff between slot port and tube port is that with a slot port you wont get nasty port noise so easily ;)

spoke to Am about this at the weekend, he recommends a 1.8cuft box tuned low - think he said about 26 hz :D

RFD2210....not for much longer though. :D

Sealed boot, German saloon, long story.....but I've tried sealed and a couple of different tuning frequencies with vented boxes. Settled for 2cu/ft box tuned to 29Hz. Marvellous. :)

I stand by what I say though.......audio is so subjective IMO. What's "SQ" to me may not be "SQ" to someone else.

All in the ear of the beholder.....:)

Ditto to that: another thread where I asked who it was, and now I know

That thing was godam pounding! Single SE12 in 1.8cube at 28Hz, powered by RF 551x

0.8cuft after displacements would be ideal.

mine is going to be powered by a rf 551x, was the one you heard sealed or ported?
should i get a 1.8cube box?

thanks

Have a look on www.reaudio.com for boxs and volumes etc :)

how do i tune the sub to say 32hz or whatever is that by using the knob on the amp?
also what does it mean, is the lower number lower frequencies?

thank you

Hi.

I can advise that you check out the FAQ section of this forum for more relavtive issues regarding box tuning and construction.

Basic note, more port area - longer port, less port area - shorter port.

would a 1cuft sealed box be ok for the se12 as on their website that is what it says.
but a few people have said 0.75 and 0.8 are good.

Hi.

From 0.75-1cuft is fine. Use the later if you want bit more bottom end, the sound will be very tight and composed in 0.75cuft

just to state... tuning ur port... is basically just for how low u want the bass to go? say if u tune it 30hz, does it play at 50hz or 25hz? Or is it literally, whatever u tune it at, thats how low it goes? Just trying to get basic understanding of it...
