Hello guys, I just thought as being an IDBL Judge I'd give you a quick run down on this.
IDBL is split up into 3 sections depending on the degree of work / modifications done to the vehicle to accomodate the audio system.
The thee being :
Stock
The intent of the “Stock” Division is to provide a category for competi_tion among contestants that have no affiliation or support from the audio industry; and, have obtained their mobile electronic systems through retail channels.
A competitor may elect to compete in the “Stock” Division if he/she meets at least one (1) of the following criteria. This criteria shall also serve to define “Consumer” competitors.
The mobile electronics system(s) that he or she is entering into competition must have been purchased through retail channels. If requested by an event Official, proof of purchase (i.e. numbered sales receipt) must be available for verification.
He or she does not derive any income from being directly involved in the selling, installation, manufacturing, designing, testing or engineering of auto sound electronics, speakers, speaker enclosures or accessories. He or she does not derive any income from being paid by the publisher of any auto sound related material.
He or she has not received any financial support or compensation for participation in this and/or similar events or promotions.
There are three woofer cone area classes in the “Stock” Division:
1- 160 square inches (no walls)
161 - 260 square inches (no walls)
261 + square inches (no walls)
The vehicle’s interior is to be kept completely stock from the trailing edge of the front doors forward. All vehicles that do not meet the following criteria will be moved to the “Advanced” or “Ultimate” Divisions. The Head Judge has the right to move the vehicle into the “Advanced” or “Ultimate” Division if in his or her opinion, the following criteria is not met or is questionable.
One amplifier and one cap per subwoofer and no more than one battery upgrade.
The enclosure must be in the OEM cargo area and cannot be taller than 25 inches.
Vehicle must have OEM style glass in all windows.
Vehicle must have a factory dashboard intact and not modified other than a possible small speaker mount (i.e., surface mount tweeters).
Speaker upgrades can be made in front of the "B" Pillar only for sound quality purposes.
Windows that rolled up and down when the vehicle was manufactured must roll up and down so as to minimize or eliminate door packing.
Factory headliner must be unmodified, remain intact and in its original location.
Factory floorboard must remain intact, not reinforced or raised and must be covered by factory or OEM style carpeting.
OEM approved seats must be remain in the vehicle. Seats cannot be removed for SPL testing. Back seats must remain in the vehicle and if applicable can be folded down.
Both front seat belts must be in the vehicle, functional and mounted to the original factory mounts.
The only acceptable kick-panel modification is the addition of partial buildouts to house functional drivers for the purpose of creating a better sound stage and imaging.
If an after-market or modified center console is mounted in the vehicle it must be functional. “Functional,” in the case of a console means that it can either provide storage space or house electronics such as equalizers, switches or video. It cannot house any speakers. If, in the opinion of the head judge, the console has been installed for the purpose taking up passenger area space, the competitor will be directed to compete in the “Advanced” Division. (Suggestion: Outside dimensions of approximately 12” X 12” X 12” should avoid any possible conflicts.)
Competition in the “Stock” Division is limited to “Consumer” competitors only. (See preceding page for definition of “Consumer.”)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advanced
The intent of the “Advanced” Division is to provide a playing field for those competitors that compete with vehicles whose interiors have been altered beyond the criteria found in the “Stock” Division definitions, but lacking some of the criteria that would make competition in the “Ultimate” Division compulsory. The “Advanced” Division also provides a format where Pro’s and Consumers can compete against each other, much like a Pro-Am game of golf. Vehicles or competitors that meet any of the following criteria will compete in the “Advanced” Division.
A competitor will be assigned to the “Advanced” Division if he/she meets at least one (1) of the following qualifications. Items 1, 2, and 3 below shall also serve to define a “Pro” competitor.
1. He or she derives any income, however small, from being directly involved in the selling, installation, manufacturing, designing, testing or engineering of auto sound electronics, speakers, speaker enclosures or accessories. He or she derives any income from being paid by the publisher of any auto sound related material.
2. Has either received, or expects to receive, financial support or other compensation for promotional consideration from any auto sound industry related person or company for participation in any event or promotion.
3. By his or her choice.
4. Any participant who is unable to qualify as a “Stock” Division competitor due to meeting any of the aforementioned parameters.
5. The competitor’s woofer cone area is greater than 720 square inches.
There are five woofer cone area classes in the “Advanced” Division:
· 1 - 260 square inches
· 261 - 360 square inches
· 361 - 720 square inches
· 721 + square inches
· 1 - 360 square inches (no walls)
1. Floorboard cannot be raised above the doorjamb.
2. The metal framing of the door jamb area may not be altered from the original factory specifications so as to allow for a deviation from the intent of floor, wall or roof measurement limitations.
3. The roof interior cannot be lowered below the top of the door opening.
4. If the competitor opts to change the factory supplied door panels, the replacement door panel build outs are not to extend more than 4 inches inward from the door glass seal.
5. A console cannot extend above the bottom of the steering wheel.
6. Passenger compartment must have seating in place that must be able to comfortably (The fetal position may be comfortable for a fetus, but not for seating in driveable vehicle.) accommodate two average build (approximately a 5’ 9”, 180 pound male) adult passengers. Seats can be adjusted in any manner possible but cannot be removed during the competition.
7. The factory windshield and side window glass may be replaced with any fully transparent material in a “Advanced” competitor’s vehicle. The transparent material replacing the windshield must retain no less than 70% of the original factory area of unobstructed visibility.
8. Seats can be removed from the vehicle during testing only.
9. Walls are allowed in this class and the enclosure with the subwoofers in them must be behind the "B" pillar.
10. Nothing may interfere with the correct placement of the microphone placement template. (See template placement instructions and drawing in this rulebook.)
11. Two alternator upgrades, no battery or amplifier limits.
12. No foot well modifications are allowed in the “Advanced” Division.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ultimate
The intent of the “Ultimate” Division is to provide a playing field for those competitors that compete with vehicles whose interiors have been altered beyond the criteria found in the “Advanced” Division definitions. The “Ultimate” Division also provides a format where Pro’s and Consumers can compete against each other. Vehicles or competitors that meet any of the following criteria will compete in the “Ultimate” Division.
There are four woofer cone area classes in the “Ultimate” Division:
· 1 - 260 square inches
· 261 - 520 square inches
· 521 - 1020 square inches
· 1021 +
Competitors will compete in the “Ultimate” Division if any of the following criteria are met:
1. Any vehicle with its floorboard raised above the original factory doorjamb.
2. Vehicles in which the metal framing of the door jamb area has been altered from the original factory specifications so as to allow for a deviation from the intent of floor, wall or roof measurement limitations.
3. Any vehicle with a roof interior that has been lowered below the top of the original factory door opening.
4. Any vehicle with one or more door panel build outs that extend more than 4 inches inward from the door glass seal.
5. A console cannot extend above the top of the dashboard
6. The factory windshield and side window glass may be replaced with any fully transparent material in a “Ultimate” competitor’s vehicle. The transparent material replacing the windshield must retain no less than 70% of the original factory area of unobstructed visibility.
7. Nothing may interfere with the correct placement of the microphone placement template. (See template placement instructions and drawing in this rulebook.)
8. Passenger compartment must have enough space to be able to seat two average build (approximately a 5’ 9”, 180 pound male) adult passengers. Seats are not mandatory to compete in the “Ultimate” Division.
9. Footwell modifications are allowed in “Ultimate” competitor vehicles.
Woofer sizes can be combined. All woofers of 10 inches in diameter or greater are to be included when determining the Class in which to compete.
A competitor may exclude up to four 6.5 inch drivers if that is the maximum quantity of them in the system and at least two larger woofers are in the vehicle. If there are more than four 6.5 inch drivers in the system, then all of them are to be included in the calculation.
A competitor may exclude up to two 8 inch drivers if that is the maximum quantity of them in the system and at least four larger woofers are in the vehicle. If there are more than two 8 inch drivers in the system, then all of them are to be included in the calculation.
If judges believe that arrays of more than six drivers smaller than 6 inch, not included in the cone area calculation, are being used in a manner that enhances the low frequency SPL of the system, they may include the drivers in question in the total calculation of cone area.
