Hi All,

I have a 8 yr old Dell works ok, has a mere 768MB of RAM. I have 2 slots one of 512MB and 256MB.

I tried to swap the 256MB to a new 512MB which has a spec of pc2-3200U 333. The other old RAM which is the 512MB in slot 1 has the same spec but when I put it in it started smoking yday?? So lucky I switched off the PC and removed it.

I have just been given another 512MB RAM and want to insert it but need some guidance...can anyone help me to guide me through to replace the 256MB?

Any help appreciated..I am on MSN if that helps!

Rishi

It sounds like you tried to put DDR2 into an 8 year old machine?

I'm guessing that a pc that old would be using DDR.

DDR

DDR2

Buy the correct memory for your machine. DDR2 just won't work unfortunately.

If the other 512mb stick you were given is DDR then you should be ok to install that.

if you have managed to force a stick of DDR2 into a DDR slot, you shouldnt really be near a PC in all honesty.

i'd go buy a new machine
