View Full Version : What class should I compete in?
Edgey 23-07-2008, 06:20 PM I'm a total noob, with my kit list as my sig, virtually no soundproofing, stock batt and stock wiring what class should I start with?
Also any hints/tips for db drag and bassrace would be fantastic.
I know I'm far from ideal at the mo but it'll be nice to see what I'm staring with.

Street B Dude, add a 2nd battery in your boot and your in Street C
As long as the box is below the lowest point of the side front windows
Edgey 23-07-2008, 06:28 PM It'll be in the boot of a 3 door 04 focus so no probe there. I do wonder if the stock batt will survive bassrace, or can I have the engine running in street b? Super street wads mentioned on the ford fair thread.
Buju Banton 23-07-2008, 06:32 PM Engine on for bassrace mate, you can burp with your engine on too, but not in the semis/final.
Edgey 23-07-2008, 06:38 PM Cool, I don't expect to compete as such, just for fun to see what it can do and how the planned improvements affect it.
So street b, engine running. Just a case of getting a tone at the tuning point and finding a decent bassrace track then!
Buju Banton 23-07-2008, 06:45 PM Well you play a sweep first to find the cars peek. eg 50hz, then you play at full volume the 50hz tone and thats your score.
Then you need to find a music track that hits hard at 50hz or around that frequency. Mr Joose usually has his laptop and cd burner to make you a disc if you tell him what your cars peaking at.
Mine car is usually 48hz but at Santa Pod it was 46hz, so it does change depending on the weather etc.
Wilfys is 52hz and Wonkys 50hz iirc.
So everyone is different, a judge will sit with you through the lanes and explain it all to you very easily, we are a friendly bunch so dont be afraid to come say hello.
HTH
Edgey 23-07-2008, 06:51 PM Yes it does ta, like I say I'm a DB drag virgin, so being shown through it is a massive help.
Ryan. 23-07-2008, 07:17 PM you can burp with your engine on too, but not in the semis/final.
since when mate?
with engine on that means Super street iirc
engine off would be street C (if you have a 2nd battery)

Jim has his own qualifying rules where he seems to keep engine on.... i think the official rule is engine off at all testing times unless in super street upwards

to be fair to Jim he does test for about 1/2 an hour.. no amount of batteries will keep up with that

hahahahahahaha
Buju Banton 23-07-2008, 07:59 PM :p You guys.
Every show ive been at you can test with the engine on, after all it is a qualifying score, just like racing for pole - the fastest/loudest you can do.
When its been the final Darren has always said ENGINES OFF.
If you wanna burp all the time at 12v be my guest.
Yeah I admit I have hogged the lanes this year, and? Ive struggled with bassrace qualifying but thats sorted now track wise.
I always try a couple of diff freq's burping, if the results aint what i want I play a sweep to see whats changed. I dont have a workshop, a termlab or even my own garage. My box is ten miles away in a garage waiting for me to do something to it. I wont know for good or bad until I can test at a show. The average show is £20-£25 plus fuel. So excuse if I dont just do one burp and park up until the finals. :p
At Bassjunkies I hit the 139.9 quali 1st time and left the lanes.
Maybe Darren can clarify the rules .
WonkyJon 23-07-2008, 08:05 PM it's alright chap :) only pulling yer leg :D
No excuses at the next one though :D
Engine off bassrace qualifying FTW

dude chill, the rule is engine off all tests but you know how slack things are sometimes......
and the rule makes sense, cuz you could burp 180 in quali then lose your next round, your first score still sticks for your max spl for that day.
and if you want to test at the show just ask before hand & i will be the termlab.... theres enough people with um, just ask & don't be shy..

testing engine on, but for qualifying for street and street max and all points after that engine IS off so they are correct, sorry dude, we sometimes miss this tho ;) we're not perfect :)
Buju Banton 23-07-2008, 08:17 PM Thanks for clearing that up Adam, I knew you could engine on for some of it.
Couldnt understand why I always had 2 scores from an event 145.3 and 145.7 at Mod nats for example when everyone else had one. Now I know ;)
Anyway I'm going for a joint :smokin: soz guys for barking off! I'm having to survive this week with just one amp and 15" in my old carpeted low tuned box :( It doesnt hurt anymore :(
wilfy 23-07-2008, 08:24 PM testing engine on
is where you usually get away with the highest of them being your quali...
whats funny is you dont get that much time in other country's, i think someone said they do sweep & burp... or even full power sweeps & your done...lol

france work way differently to here, 100+ cars per event, one go only, sweep and only run finals as no time for full bracketed knockouts :) iirc
wilfy 23-07-2008, 10:19 PM exactly, so i'm sayin he's lucky that it's relaxed over here
Buju Banton 23-07-2008, 10:24 PM How can I be lucky with you lot moaning at me :) :p
Its not enough your beating me in teh lanes but now your moaning about me trying to catch up! :D
(Runs off to browse the Iasca rulebook) :shake:
Edgey 23-07-2008, 10:44 PM lol What have I started!
Done a bit if reading, am I better off in super street where the rules allow engine on?
I just can't see a 4 year old oem battery being of any use.

If your just doin bassrace you can have your engine on
Edgey 24-07-2008, 06:49 AM Want to do both as it's £20 at fordfair for both competitions.

goto halfords and just get a slighty uprated battery (or look in the classifieds, i think TROUBLESTARTER has a few nsb75s for sale, one of those will replace your front battery a treat
Edgey 24-07-2008, 07:52 AM Costco do Bosch silvertops if they're any good?
WonkyJon 24-07-2008, 08:01 AM Some people swear by those bosch ones... more than likely will be better than an old battery :)
Just to clarify what TheJoose said, bassrace is engine on... even if you compete in Street A, you can bass race engine on anyway :)
Edgey 24-07-2008, 08:07 AM Most things will be better than a 4 year old oem motorcraft battery!
The halfords uprated one was £95 last time I looked, but I think I'll take a ride to costco and see how much the biggest Bosch silvertop that will fit is.
