Any nice keyboards out there in the <£30 range?

Something wired, with a good feel to it. I've got a cheapy Logitech one at the moment and it's horrible, keeps missing letters out. :(

Not bothered about displays or a bajillion multimedia keys, just the usual ones.

The apple one looks nice...

Thanks. :)

The slimline apple ones do look very nice, i've almost bought one a few times just looking at them .

I dont understand the need for any 'multimedia' keys or short cut keys, appart from volume control's, yet most keyboards seem to throw thousands of the things at you. :whatever:

The Apple ones are awesome, got one myself. For £30 you can't really go wrong.

my advice would be to try before you buy, as different brands seem to space their letters slightly differently, personally i can only use logitechs and my mate can only use microshaft ones :)

I use one of the newer style Dell ones at work...

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=580-12066

Has quite a nice soft key action and has been good so far. Also has the Page Up / Page Down / Insert etc buttons in the proper layout and not in a stupid random, rotated through 90 degrees, upside down spread randomly around the keyboard layout.

Few handy media / shortcut keys but not too many - and the rotary volume knob is pretty funky.

Overall i like. And i'm a programmer BTW so rely on a keyboard that's nice to use! lol

I use IBM keyboards at work and I like them, they feel very solid and chunky, the Dell ones I've used seem a bit more spongy and I'm quite an aggressive typist at times. :D

I'm not sure about a brushed aluminium keyboard though, it makes my fingers freak out.

Get yourself an IBM Model M, Foom. They're so clunky it's like using a typewriter :D

I'm a simple DELL fan too. Mine is slightly older though and the keys never feel spongy and take a good bit of abuse. Just wish it was USB so I could use it with my laptop.

Tried cleaning your keyboards? A lot of people at work complain of the same thing, so I go and bang the keyboards and then flip it upside and show them. It magically works after.

I use Logitechs and a laser one.

It's a relatively new keyboard but a budget one and we just don't get on. :(

I am now seriously considering buying a model M. :D

Although I think I'll have to abuse the staff at PC World at the weekend to take some others for a test-drive. Particularly the apple one to see if I can cope with its aluminiumness.

I'm sure I can dig you out an original model M from an IBM model PS/2 at the weekend if you want?

The annoying thing about apples is that the @ and " are the wrong way round - even on a UK keyboard with the £ sign

Other than that, they're generally lovely.

PC thieves etc, wouldn't spend a penny in there unless my life depended on it.

It looks nice, types crap, no satisfaction to the key press, the keys wobble on their slots and remind me somewhat of a poorer inplimentation of the plastic ZX Spectrum 128K keys from 1986.

No sensory release form giving the keys a damn good thunk, like tapping a prolapse victim.

EDIT

Oh and the layout is wrong, US style with the @ above the 2.

Apple > Shift > CTRL > 12558987#998 to get the £ sign up and all that.

If I can't find something comfy at the weekend I might take you up on that, cheers. :)
