View Full Version : pc versus consoles? fiji bob 18-06-2008, 06:47 PM a few people have said there are rumours that you will be able to play online using either format to play against another ie one person on a pc playing against someone else on a console? true or false? Ryan. 18-06-2008, 06:50 PM how could that be done? the coding for the games will be totaly different surely which i would have thought would severely affect it Patrick! 18-06-2008, 06:52 PM there have been games in the past that have allowed this, not so sure with xbox live and how closed it is. It would very much depend on the developer programming the different versions to support it. If the developer hosts the servers there's no reason why not. At least everything is IP these days! fiji bob 18-06-2008, 06:56 PM i didnt think it would work but wondered if they might be opening up the networks to allow it mr spoon 18-06-2008, 07:09 PM Nothing to stop it working, as long as the protocols used are the same. Gamers playing on Linux can play against Windows gamers after all, and alot of the technology between consoles and PCs is similar now. SwitchBlade 18-06-2008, 09:17 PM Doable, but they have to think carefully about which games they allow to do this. IIRC it was a Quake version on Dreamcast that could play on the same servers as a PC, downfall was that with a keyboard and mouse the PC gamers were faster and more accurate. Benny 18-06-2008, 09:21 PM All talk IP and there's no reason why the protocol they use to communicate between a game on PC and a game on PS3 should be incompatible. B Sven 18-06-2008, 09:22 PM Shadowrun lets you do this (PC vs Xbox 360) Dr.Jones 18-06-2008, 10:06 PM console gamers would moan about unfair advantage due to keyboard/mouse in some games and pc gamers would moan about wrong patch levels, bots/cheating and windows crashing all the time  j_s 19-06-2008, 10:04 AM Yep, a few more are meant to be in the pipeline but it's gone very quiet. PC vs 360 vs PS3 vs Wii is completely possible if they want to, the key here is want to. PC vs 360 vs PS3 vs Wii is completely possible if they want to, the key here is want to. Cost / development time / testing will be the biggest factor. Takes a lot more to ensure everything actually works together properly. |
