Ok im not going ot go too far but i would like to pull a 140 out of the hat with my current system.

I did a 137.5 at Phattbeats so 2.5 db to find somewhere.

I havent sound deadened, this will be happening shortly, and I havent radded my port, again this will be happening shortly.

Basically what I'd like to know as not a lot of people have experience of getting big scores out of saloons is how to get higher :D

Current equuipment list

DD 3512 - Dual 4 coils
Voodoo V1600.1 (1kw @ 2 ohms) (Thats one mono amp Zim, ONE)
Ground zero comps and PPI comp amp

In a 3.5 cuft box tuned to 40hz with the box facing the boot and the ski hatch open. Tried the box facing the seats and lost 2.5 db lol :D

So yea, any suggestions while my lass is on holiday for a week and I can get cracking?

intrestingly enough i found loading away from the ski hatch louder, with the port to the left and the two subs facing forward..........

very rare this happens though

Same as mine mr infinity, was 2.5 db louder facing the boot than facing through the hatch

but your engine was off 2nd time around as well chap ;)

This isnt my advice, I dont claim it as my own.. but I was told on sunday to check everything - seat positions (ok, you have 2 seats to move, but try moving the skihatch/armrest thing too...)
Move the box - forward, backward, turn it around...
all the while, testing, plotting and making notes.. once you've found the loudest with what you have, then think about modding the box....
Of course, you need a termlab (or some other mic - as long as it's consistent readings) and patience to do this...

Or start with Orca's suggestion.. hack that shelf to bits :D

I cant really move the box around that much Jon though to be honest, you saw how much of a tight squeeze it was, im gonna get hacking I think, then deaden, I dont think anyone around me has a termlab or anything :(

Not IB no. Box underneath, with ports on the shelf too. :)

Ah right so using the shelf as the baffle, then box built up underneath that, with the port firing into the cabin via shelf too? essentially making it a hatchback more or less?

Bingo. This is what I was gonna do in an S8, and still will. Well in some big exec. saloon anyway.

I was going to use two 18's, but then an S8 is MASSIVE. How much space do you have?

Well i was hoping to get to my 140 target with just my single 12" and 1kw going into it, in a saloon, that was my aim.

I have enough room to fit at least 2 x 15's in the rear shelf, perhaps this is the idea for next time :D

Only real preoblem I have is making a bigger box and being able to fit it into the boot, the opening to get into the boot sucks donkey dildo

Build 'in situ' :D
Getting pretty serious then though...
With regards to moving the box around, maybe 0.1 louder closer to the lid than the seats.. may not.. that's all I meant :)

all academic though if you are going to hack the shelf and fire up through that though :D

i was thinkin this, cut the top out of the shelf, then fill the boot everywhere with fibreglass to make one big enclosure, and put subs in to match

My lass would have a fit....no pram bootspace, however I do have a fairly large set of back seats which the pram can sit on, anyone got a pair of 9515's?

It also would be good after this little project i'm thinking about 2x15's infinite baffle and replacing the shelf with some bracing and an MDF baffle would make this a shedload easier

Don't forget that the shelf is usually structural, so whatever you rip out, you might want to consider making up for.

John and I are seeing eye to eye again though .. airsaw ftw!

I might consider taking the saw to the rear shelf in my tomcat - there are holes for 2 x 8"s in there - i might just open the hole up a little bit more - might make the creak in the middle a bit more when going around corners FTL :(

IB is not good for SPL, its designed with flat play in mind not peaking SPL scores.

You need to get someone with a termlab so you can try different aiming options.

Can you lower your seats? If so try aiming into the cabin and seal up the edges (you can test with foam/towles) so you fire only into the cabin not the boot area. You may have lost 2.5db when firing forwards because of cancelation.

I meant after I get my goal for SPL i was going to try doing sq for a bit hence IB, something new etc etc and a different experience.

I cant lower my seats only the ski hatch I have (yoda?)

And if anyone has a termlab near me I'd love to hear from them :D

You need to identify you you want to do.

IB SQ and 140 DB+ is not really going to happen unless you spend a fortune.

Orca's SQ install 3 ID MAX 12's IB with 1000WRMS+ is a very flat system but does a 138DB.

The only IB I would see doing 140DB+ whould be a pair FI Audio Q IB 15's, a very ridgid install (wood and nomex sandwich) and a good amount of power (more than 1000WRMS).

I had 3K rms to hit 138

(one sub was out of phase though ;))

Erm i have, I want 140db from a single 12" with 1kw of power.

When I have done that, i am going to change everyhting and go for an SQ install, i posted that above :p

Ok well not to difficult then is should be achivable with some testing with aiming/sealing, seat positions or if that does not work then a new box.

Get hold of a TL and do it, there not much more we can assist with untill you have done some bassline testing....
