The xbox comes with an ethernet port on the back of the console, but no wireless adapter.

To go wireless you need a wireless bridge/wireless games adapter. It has to have an ethernet connection, not a USB wireless bridge

I bought a Belkin Wireless bridge (model F5d7330)for £30 or so off ebay (looks just like this one).

Its simple to connect, an ethernet cable between the adapter and the xbox, you just need to give the adapter power and off you go.

You do need to use a PC to set the bridge up. After spending an hour trying to set up mine I found it would only work if you used a Hex pass key, not a passphrase. There is no CONNECTED light or message, so you just need to keep playing until the PC can connect wirelessly to the router and you have internet access. Then you just unplug the PC and plug in the xbox and off you go.
