You first of all need to unlock your xbox following this guide...

http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=211841

This unlocks the xbox and allows us to gain access to all the files from our PC. We will now duplicate this disk to another disk, it will function the same, but have more space for games, music, videos etc.

Stage 1 - X Box Preperation

We first of all need to back up all the info on our drives and also extract the EEPROM.bin from the xbox. The EEPROM.bin is the key to your xbox and without it you can't do anything.

Turn on your xbox and go into your new dash (UnleashX)

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/unleashx.jpg

Open up the File Explorer and you will see this screen...

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/filebrowser.jpg

use the D pad to go down to E and push A, select ndts and push A again and you will see this....

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/filebrowser2.jpg

In the Xbox world there is only one file to run in each folder, this is always called default.xbe. So run default.xbe.

NDTS is the Tools section of the UnleashX dash, this will give you complete access to your C and E drive and also allow you to back up your EEPROM.bin. (Normal UnleashX only gives partial access to C and E)

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/ndts.jpg

The NDTS dashhas the same layout and controls as UnleashX but with different options. The first thing we are going to do is to backup the EEPROM.bin, so select 'backup/restore' followed by 'backup eeprom'

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/eeprom1.jpg

You will then be told where the file will be stored and click on OK to continue. It will be stored in E:\Apps\evox\backup

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/eeprom2.jpg

You will now be taken into part of the EvoX dash and this is where the backup happens, so select 'backup eeprom' This only takes a second or two, when you return to the EvoX dash, select 'Return to Main Menu'

We now just need to turn on the FTP, this is the same process as in the first tutorial, but the options are further down the list, so scroll down until you see the option you want, you want to go....

System > Misc > Start FTP

Now the FTP Service has started, we can copy everything we need to our PC

Stage 2 - FTP & PC

The xbox is now setup to copy all the files across to the PC, so log into the xbox via FTP and copy the contents of the C drive and E drive to your PC.

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/ftp.jpg

The eeprom.bin backup is on the E drive, so that is now also on your PC.

We now need to create a new xboxhdm disc, so unzip the files again, but to a new location.

Explore the files and you will see the following...

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/xboxhdm.jpg

We now need to copy our Xbox contents to the relevant folders, so copy the contents of the C drive to the C folder, the contents of the E drive to the E folder and copy the eeprom.bin to the eeprom folder.

Remember :- Your eeprom.bin is already on your PC, in the E drive backup, under apps\evox\backup\

Now we have all the information off our xbox we can build our CD to create a new hard disk.

Notes on making the disc

On my first attempt I found that the PC was unable to boot from a DVD-R, it was a DVD drive, so not sure if the problem was linux or the PC, so if you keep the file size below 700Mb for all the files you can burn to a CD and it will all be fine. To check the filesize, right click on the folder called linux and select 'properties' this will show you the file size.

A brand new xbox was easily under 700Mb. I bought a 2nd hand xbox which had save games and also some music and it totalled 900Mb. On your E drive you have a backup of your original hard disk, we won't need that on this new HD, so you can delete the folder ..\E\backup. The music is also stored on the E drive, in the folder ..\E\TDATA\fffe0000\music. I deleted all of the content of this folder apart from the file ST.DB, this bought my file size down to 640Mb.

This is the only part I have had any form of problems

Now you have created the disc we are ready to go

Stage 3 - Creating the Disk

This step only requires the PC, unplug all your hard disks and just have 1 CD/DVD drive plugged in (like when we modded the original drive). This time we are going to plug in the new hard disk into the primary master and also plug in into the power connector.

Turn on your PC and boot from the CDyou created in the stage 2.

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/xhdm.jpg

When the screen above comes up push 1 as before.

When the following screen comes up type in 'xboxhd'

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/33qp.jpg

This will create a new HD from scratch. It will ask 5 or so questions and each time type in yes and push enter. The building of the C and E drive can take some time (C drive 10 minutes or so).

When it has finished restart the PC so you are back to this screen

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/xhdm.jpg

This time select option 3 'Boot linux with locking/unlocking utilities

when it has loaded type in

'lockhd -a'

You will be asked if you want to continue, press y.

You should see the phrase 'command completed successfully' That means this hard disk is now ready to use in your xbox.

Before taking the old HDD out, give it a quick test to make sure it works, just unplug the power and ribbon cables from the original HDD to the new HDD and turn the xbox on.

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/newhdd2.jpg

If it works you can now swap the HDDs over. There is one screw to undo in the middle of the xbox, this is a torx T10

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/newhdd3.jpg

Once this has been taken out the whole tray the hard drives sits in comes out and you should see the 4 scews holdling the hard disk in place

http://www.bsquared.plus.com/dale/xbox/guide/newhdd4.jpg

Swap the HDs over, stick the tray back in, close the lid and you are done. A fully modded xbox with large hard disk. You should never have to take apart the xbox again unless you some how majorly kill it.

Next guide is applications and dashes
