View Full Version : google really is taking over the internet... J.B 13-04-2007, 02:17 PM http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/04/13/google_checkout_uk/ Harry Bo 13-04-2007, 02:19 PM There's been talk of this for a while now. They need to get some of the big players onboard really - Amazon, Play, eBay etc. Will be interesting to see if they manage it :) HB J.B 13-04-2007, 02:21 PM i can't see them getting eBay on board tbh which is my only reservation. what with paypal being owned by ebay... Harry Bo 13-04-2007, 02:22 PM Yup. eBay have no incentive to let Google into their sandpit.... but then, cut price advertising might be all that it takes ;) HB J.B 13-04-2007, 02:24 PM that reminds me actually, froogle already searches ebay listings. if they could step up the performance of that with a bit of help from ebay it could be quite formidable... Ryan. 13-04-2007, 02:41 PM with all this talk am i the only person seeing an ebay-google merger? RobbieS 13-04-2007, 02:45 PM I believe they have E-Buyer on board but don't know who else Keviņo 13-04-2007, 04:53 PM I would have thought that Ebay need to let Google in. Surely Google could easily crush ebay by releasing a competing auction site? Harry Bo 13-04-2007, 04:56 PM Too hard to take their business now though, eBay have an effective monopoly. What could Google do to attract people to their own service? Even if they charged half the listing fees, sellers wouldn't care to move because there are fewer buyers looking etc etc... it's all but impossible to break eBay's monopoly now. HB easytease 13-04-2007, 09:56 PM or is it? Google are a great company. they suceed as they invest hugely into design and development of their coding etc. a simple basic interface that simply just works. If only mr Gates would see that light.... Jim 13-04-2007, 11:46 PM i dont think ebay is as strong as it appears. i always search forum classifieds, classifieds sites, and basically anywhere that sells thing when i am trying to buy something specific. ebay is the "one stop shop", but if there was a 2nd auction site i would check that too, as would most buyers. people want to buy wherever is cheapest if google were to launch an ebay competitor, i think it would be highly successful. it wouldnt take ebay down but it could definitely compete WebsiteDragon 14-04-2007, 12:02 AM Thank **** for that; it's about time Paypal had some decent competition. Google may not be aiming it at person to person transactions but that seems like the logical next step once it is established. I would love to move away from Paypal. |
