There is no formal procedure used to select Moderators on TalkAudio. If you are felt to be Mod material and we're looking for new blood, you will be approached by one of the Admins and offered Mod status on a trial basis.
Please be aware that you can't really lobby for Mod status. Nevertheless, some of the things we look for include:
Generally polite demeanour on the Forum. Mods are expected to keep their temper under control, so if you've picked up 5 Warning Points for Offensive Posts, you're probably not Mod material.
Helpful and productive within the community. While we don't expect all Mods to be car audio experts, we do expect them to be helpful wherever possible. If you offer assistance to new members, go out of your way to help people and are an asset to TA, this will help you.
Active. Don't confuse this with a high postcount, because it's not the same thing. The main requirement of Moderators is that they read posts, not that they write them, so having a postcount of 20,000 is not a pre-requisite, but being a frequent visitor to TA is.
Good command of English. Here on TA, we like proper English. With punctuation, grammar and spelling. If you type in txt-spk or some other unintelligible variant of the language, you're probably out of the running!
Dedication. Without a doubt, the most important factor in being a Mod on TA is how dedicated you are to the Forum. If you genuinely want to help TA improve and grow, you have one of the qualities we're looking for :)
But remember - we don't often need new Moderators and the selection process is not a public one. Bothering Admins with PMs or posts saying "I should be a Mod!" is not likely to help your cause. We know what we're looking for, so your best chance is to behave, help people out, and make yourself an asset to TalkAudio :)
