For the Co-driver? Because driver is only counted when on the steering-wheel...
MY Co-drivers remote is in front of the handbrake. (But asure yourself you do not have a mercedes-benz, because it would be VERY unusefull to attach it near the "hand"brake ;) )

I have to say that's a good idea, include vol up/down and skip ahead on the handbrake, in my car they are the most often used buttons and the handbrake is easy to find and manipulate buttons on without looking away from driving.

Do you get track info on your visor screen? Additional displays should count. :)

just refer to the rule book for what is needed for max erg points.

7.8 Ergonomics (max. 9 points)
The judges are to look for ease of system operation and a minimum of distraction from the road, as if the vehicle were being driven. The system with the closest approximation to this condition would receive points.

The operational mode will be judged by turning the audio system power on/off, controlling the volume, track selection or ff / rew controls and visibility/readability of the display only.

The accessibility of a system will be judged in the operational mode, meaning that all shrouds or covers, hiding the controls or user adjustable components required to operate the system, will be removed, and will not affect the ergonomic scoring.

The judge seated in the driver's seat will operate the audio system and determine the level of difficulty and / or distraction in reaching the above defined user adjustable components and controls.

The audio system must demonstrate a good balance of comfort and vehicle safety during operation. The judges must be able to immediately operate the audio system from the driver’s seat without confusion.

General accessibility and visibility of the relevant user adjustable component(s) from the driver’s seat during theoretical vehicle operation, is desired.

this would bring you into the 3pt zone for visibility if within prescribed boundary.
