View Full Version : This annoys me...
"@" stands for "at" I do believe. Thus when saying "t w a t" or suchlike please don't put "tw@t", as that would be "t w a t t" which is clearly incorrect. It should simply be "tw@".
That is all.

I hate it when people say PIN Number as it would be Personal Identifaction Number Number.
:clown:
Voice_Coil 25-07-2006, 10:09 PM or massive big *object*
how can it be big AND massive.....
mmm, I was about to go into double negative territory ("I ain't done nothing") but that would push me over the edge I reckon :lol:
DEVICES 25-07-2006, 10:15 PM I use the @ sign as an alternative for the A... like á.
ModifiedMadness 25-07-2006, 10:18 PM A bit like the WRC Championship - World Rally Championship Championship
Chippy 25-07-2006, 10:19 PM Is this directed at the "run out of money" thread? If so I was thinking about this too. I wasn't quite sad enough to start a thread about it though ;) :raz:

smitters 26-07-2006, 08:19 AM We had a cafe in Cardiff called "The Warm As Toast Cafe" I really used to hate all the tossers who constantly called it "The T.W.A.T.". The The? WTF? F**k off home, relearn to read, then come back to Uni. D1ckheads.
<pause>
Gee. That's been bugging me a while, evidently.
major_84 26-07-2006, 09:40 AM blatently obvious is one that gets me, u wouldn't say obviously obvious??
Harry Bo 26-07-2006, 09:44 AM I just can't resist...

big and massive; big implies large size, massive implies large mass. A hot air balloon is big and not massive. A mountain is big and massive. A neutron star is small and massive.
So there :p
HB
SwitchBlade 26-07-2006, 09:46 AM Not knocking you, but a neutron star is still fairly large.
DEVICES 26-07-2006, 09:48 AM Compared to how many cheeseburgers?`
Harry Bo 26-07-2006, 09:48 AM Not knocking you, but a neutron star is still fairly large.
Not for it's mass. Pound for pound, it's bloody tiny :p
HB
PS: Knew I could lure a pedant out with that example ;)
SwitchBlade 26-07-2006, 09:50 AM Aye but it still won't fit in your teacup.
P.s. Ooooh speed editing, admit it, you f*cked up ;) :p
Harry Bo 26-07-2006, 09:53 AM Like Jim, I never make mistakes. Unlike Jim, I really do have a 12" schlong :raz:

allrite mister harri bo, fink abowt wot miyt happen if wee all started talking fonetically tho. :p
The point is, the spelling is wrong, not the pronunciation, but as its a forum, its the spelling that matters. It must stop :D
Kineticz 26-07-2006, 04:13 PM Another one is 'can I lend your phone please mate?'
Erm no, but you can certainly BORROW it :rolleyes: :evil:
Benny 26-07-2006, 04:21 PM allrite mister harri bo, fink abowt wot miyt happen if wee all started talking fonetically tho. :p

Breezer 26-07-2006, 05:20 PM 'Hence why' crops up more than occasionally on this forum. Etiquette has prevented me from killing anyone yet, but that really annoys me.
Chippy 26-07-2006, 07:53 PM ^ You spell 'weird' 'wierd'. Hence why people in glass houses....:p
Harry Bo 26-07-2006, 07:55 PM Quite tempted to rename this thread... how about "Ultimate Grammar Nazi Free-for-All"? :raz:
Before anyone starts, I know I'm lazy with commas, inconsistent with how I format units of measurement and there are a few words I just can't seem to spell :p

Harryredchow 26-07-2006, 08:59 PM I only just spotted this thread. You know what bothers me? People who are pendantic. That really gets on my nerves.
I just use the @ as a T. Get over it.
TW@T ;)

I do? o_0
Keviņo 26-07-2006, 11:03 PM I just use the @ as a T. Get over it.
no you don't; you use it as an A! :lol:
while were at it, numbers as letters annoy me when its trying to be clever. ie:
SE7EN - that'll be SE-SEVEN-EN then.
and 5IVE - FIVE-IVE..
spacks!
joeyy 26-07-2006, 11:11 PM not much gets to me except when people have some st1tty gif images on msn, they write a sentance and all you can see are animations, you have to right click on the actual animation to see what the letter is. :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

I thought 3=E
1=I or L
5=S
2=Z
4=H
0=O
7=T again
That's how I've tended to see them used. Maybe only the 1337 use them like that.

Pedantic? :p

The brain can read and understand misspelled words so why does it even bother you!
The internet is free of rules!
Harryredchow 27-07-2006, 06:10 AM Pedantic? :p
I knew somebody would fall into my trap. :lol:
I get them at work with that all the time. The pedants just can't resist but pull me up on it.
The trap was set for GMC though :(
