Just out of curiousity, who chooses which words are *ed? Is it a ready made dictionary thing or does the forum host have to add words?

Was a bit bored so decided to make a list of words that don't get blanked out (that possibly should get blanked out). If you got anymore copy, paste, and add to the list

*******
*****
dick
xplod
arse
****
audiobahn

but surely arse and dick would be the equivalent to c0ck which is banned?

they are words used in pretty much everyday conversation.

I can fully understand c*nt being banned, but you go past a playground, you'll hear worse.

Hell, I heard one young kid tell another to go to meatspin.com the other day!

I think it's healthy that we can freely discuss fisting, felching, tromboning and scat...and yet we try to talk about Microsoft certification, and it gets starred out :D

"Yah, I'm working towards my MCSE!"

Swear filter now improved a bit. Fingers crossed this will also have solved the MCSE issue too :)

Whats the point if having banned words if people are going to just get around them, i.e spelling the word in such a way that it is just as easily understood as writing the full word? Even mods do this so whats the point in any words being banned at all?

It's illegal to drive at more than 70mph. Bet you've done it...

Murder's illegal too. People still get killed.

Theft, also against the rules. Things still get nicked.

See the pattern here? ;) Rules may get broken, but that doesn't mean we don't need rules...

You probably should. I don't see why you wanted to reveal your sexual proclivities with your last edit though :p

imo it makes the forum look a little more respectable.. sure people can get around them, but the fact that TA has made a concious effort to try and filter out swearing makes the forum a little more inviting, imho :)

and a little bit more intellectual as we have to create derogatory insults from non rude words
