I get out of the underground station only to realise that I have left my cigarettes and lighter at home. So I pop into the shop and think why bother with a lighter so get some matches. I was so suprised after lighting up the cigarette. It tastes so much better than with a lighter :love: :love: :love: I am never going back to lighters.

So has anybody else found a diffrence between the taste of a cigarette depending on if a lighter or matches are used to light it?

As an ex-smoker i'd say it does taste different, matches taste horrible.

yes matches make it taste funny, due to the sulphur content in them, lighters just burn of the gasses to create the flame. i use a petrol zippo rip off, makes them taste lovely

Stick to the lighters.

they do make it taste 'funny'. Like it's really acidic or something.

When you light the match, let it burn for a second or two to get rid of the phosporus (sp?) or sulphur or whatever it is. Tastes much better.

lol - Definately makes a difference, until recently (I.E. when my mate stopped working there) I used to keep a book of "FAT CAT BAR" matches in my wallet... :)

Yep totally different! Worst than matches is the "zippo effect"... they taste of petrol afterwards... :chunks:

I went back to lighter today and the cigarette tasted kind of bland. IMHO a lighter is like a sealed box......its the nice and safe option and does all but matches are like a big dirty ported box.....perhaps not the most practical and perhaps not to everyones taste but damn they are fun :smokin:

PS: I can imagine a trip to A&E coming up soon and its going to be Rossi's fault :lol:

when smoking an expensive "proper" cigar you should always use matches to light it not a lighter.
if you spark up a proper cigar using a lighter you should be shot.

dunno but you can certainly taste the sulfur in your ciggie.. I always let the match burn down a fair bit first before lighting up

Nothing quite like the taste of a freshly struck swan vesta through a fag. Its even cooler when you can light them with the snap of a fingernail, took me loads of practice and a fair few burnt fingers before I perfected it.

What makes you say that surely the scent of wood burning compared to gas is different. So why wouldn't it make them taste different?

Personally I always use a lighter (on fags) but if I smoke a cigar a match makes the flavour much more enjoyable. As long as you let the head of the match fully burn so your only using the burning wood to light it. Not the horrbile chemicals in the head.

Because as you take your first drag to light it you're pulling a load of phosphorous through if you use a match. After the first couple of drags I doubt there'd be any flavour left though. ;)

Matches aint like that anymore :lol:

I have just done a test with two fags. One was lit with a lighter, the other with a match.

I can honestly say that the FIRST toke on the fag using the match tastes different. But after that, it went back to normal. :)

theres didderent kinds of phosphur. i think its white that caused lots of industrial dieases. iirc they use white phosphur in bombs. :)

The sulpher burns off a match in a few seconds, leaving it virtually tasteless.. which is why in Saudi Arabia it's etiquette to light your own cigarette off a match first, leaving the better tasting part for whomever else will be using it.
