View Full Version : Sound deadening pics (second skin)
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 07:42 AM Hi did some deadening last night with th second skin trunk kit and what cn i can.......this stuff rocks so much better than brown bread and dynamat. When you not on rear quarter its like solid wood and compared to the front (BB) it seems as though the front doors haven't been done :wow: anyways heres the pics

Dean A 02-06-2006, 07:48 AM Yup - I used 6/7 sheets on my doors at the weekend and it is indeed brilliant stuff. I would say it's on par with Dyn Extreme, the only thing that really seperates them is the price.
Definately better than BB and Flashing tape etc... less messy, better adhesion, more mass per sheet etc... Worth the money :)
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 07:56 AM Its about the same price as Dynamat Extreme isn't it?
Yes the adhesion is very very good its so stick it sticks to your fingers :wow:
If anyone was thinking of buying some sound deadening BUY SECOND SKIN
I have bought some over kill as well ill add pics to this thread when ive done applied it
Dean A 02-06-2006, 08:01 AM Your right - price on CAD is pretty much the same and the product is directly comparable. However, Second Skin I believe is easier to get hold of, Dynamat Extreme can take weeks to come back into stock for example...!
I'd be interested in the Overkill results... :)
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 08:05 AM I will be reporting back once its installed :)
Stuie 02-06-2006, 08:13 AM do you want to come do mine?
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 08:14 AM Na your ok mate my fingers are hurting enough as that are  :p
RickyLee53 02-06-2006, 08:16 AM Looking good mate, still not heard it yet  :D
Dean A 02-06-2006, 08:23 AM Na your ok mate my fingers are hurting enough as that are  :p
A few cuts eh?
I would be tempted to use SS Sludge next time... looks easier to apply etc!

paulbfd 02-06-2006, 08:52 AM Is Over Kill the road / engine noise reducing material? I'm keen to know how much difference that will make Matt.
Mr. Fusion 02-06-2006, 10:21 AM looking good, shoul dbe nice and quiet!
Jas Singh 02-06-2006, 10:51 AM let me know how effective this is, i used brownbread 2 layers in the rear 3 on the roof and 2 on the doors but parts of the car still resonate like mad
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 11:56 AM Looking good mate, still not heard it yet  :D
Pipe down im working on it :p Wheres yours anyways?
Is Over Kill the road / engine noise reducing material? I'm keen to know how much difference that will make Matt.
Yeah it there to stop road noise and overall rattles.
The difference between BB and SS is amazing, you need to hear the difference :clown: Never buying any other sound deadening product :D
When are these deals going down guru?? :D
NickH 02-06-2006, 12:23 PM Looking good Matt. I'm looking forward to doing my Clio in SS, though only the boot for now then the doors when I get some more dough together.
How much Overkill are you using for the doors? Just for behind the speaker or total coverage? Does it really make enough of a difference to warrant it? I was thinking about getting some, but thought it would be a bit, well Overkill!
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 12:29 PM I won't be using on my front doors only on my rear quarters well saying that ill ee how it goes. Looks good though a bit like wet suit material
_PAUL_ 02-06-2006, 12:52 PM Alright lads im buying some sound deadening soon as im in the process of building a full boot install. Will i need to put the sound deadening on the walls inside the sub boxes or just over the metal in the boot ?
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 01:00 PM IMO don't put it in your sub box just in the boot and surrounding area's use as much as you can afford
Durzel 02-06-2006, 01:05 PM Can anyone tell me in advance if with a bulk pack (that I already bought from CAD) this will be enough to do the front doors on my Civic Type-R? (2004). I'm worried that if I don't order more now I'll miss out on the deals :)
WhoJar 02-06-2006, 01:07 PM I bulk pack of SS? Thats like 36ft. Easy enough mate, you will have enough to do a good percentage of your car :)
Mike@CAD 02-06-2006, 01:08 PM The difference between BB and SS is amazing, you need to hear the difference :clown: Never buying any other sound deadening product :D

How does the sludge compare?
mulletboy2 02-06-2006, 02:07 PM How does the sludge compare?
I haven't tried the sheet stuff. It's easier to apply, and is very effective. I love the stuff. I ordered another gallon of it, and a gallon of spectrum firewall. I might get myself a bulk pack to try out, but it's hard to justify it given what's left to be covered in my car, and the fact that I've got plenty of sludge waiting :D
Mike@CAD 02-06-2006, 06:38 PM Done, but i think i have rated it twice :o
Three times actually but i only approved it once ;) Thanks again...
Durzel 02-06-2006, 07:27 PM Do you need a roll to put this stuff on effectively, or will hands suffice? (never sound deadened myself before)
Mike@CAD 02-06-2006, 07:29 PM Strong thumbs are ok but a wooden roller saves on the pain for bigger jobs :)
LeoN7788 02-06-2006, 07:55 PM have any of you tried or have got in your car dyna plate? saw it on the dynamat site the other week but have yet to see it on any uk internet sites to buy has the stuff just recently come out...
Chimp_choker 02-06-2006, 08:35 PM I bulk pack of SS? Thats like 36ft. Easy enough mate, you will have enough to do a good percentage of your car :)
I bought 5 rolls of BB to do the (classic ) mini thinking that would be enough and ended up with 22 rolls (Normal not bulk packs)and still not finished, lol.
I'm going to have a go at the sludge now.
Chimp_choker 02-06-2006, 09:07 PM Forgive the newbie thicky question ( like learner drivers, all been there ) but I saw this on the spectrum site.
Spectrum Sludge is the thickest vibration putty/paste on the market. One coat is all you need to achieve the minimum thickness of 1mm but a total thickness of up to 4 mm can be applied in a single coat if desired. Spectrum Sludge dampens more vibrations and noise with less added weight and less layers. Use as an interior or exterior coating to prevent vibration, noise and rust. Save time, energy, weight and money! Because Sludge is so thick it can not be sprayed.
Therefore my question is this. Have i read it right in that you can use it as a kind of underseal as opposed to that black sticky stuff normally Used for undersealing cars?? (It's a restoration project so the bodyshell is clean)
If so I'm back off to halfords tomorrow, underseal in hand and ready to order 2 gallon of sludge.....well it is a big car.... a classic mini....
TIA
Chimp choker
Mike@CAD 02-06-2006, 10:12 PM As far as i understand it certainly can be used in exterior applications, although i am not sure if it is as rugged to the weather as full blown underseal.
You can see guys who have used on exterior panels here:

2 Gallon Sludge pales will be available in approx 4 weeks for those extra big jobs :)

Thanks guru,
You'll have to do me a special deal on 2 seperate gallons of sludge if I ring on monday as i need to get the mini finished asap....:)
Mike@CAD 02-06-2006, 11:13 PM I'm afraid to say we have totally sold out of all Sludge until the end of June. We were totally caught out on pre-order demand and the next (sizeable) shipment is due in 4 weeks.
Mike
mulletboy2 02-06-2006, 11:14 PM I've used both sludge, POR15 and Tetraseal. I'd rate it at around the same as Tetraseal (and most other unbranded/cheapy underseals) for underseal abilities, but it's no POR15, which is the blackest, thickest, most chip resistant paint I've ever come across.
[edit] If anyone's in desperate need of sludge, I have a gallon here that I probably won't need any time soon. Providing you cover the price I paid plus postage, I can wait for the next order.

:o Meh brand whore :p
It is really good stuff though i am so impressed with it :)
As for the comparsion with 2 layers f brown bread i think it is better than 2 layers, because i have put 2 layers of BB on my fronts and it seems like they haven't even been done compared to the Second Skin :smokin:
BTW BB is good budget deadening and well worth the money ;)
