Panch 31-05-2006, 09:53 AM So what do you reckon are the best of the recent albums? Mine are, not necessarily in any order:
KT Tunstall - Eye to the Telescope
Dave Gilmour - On an Island
Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
Panch
Stuie 31-05-2006, 11:29 AM dire straits - brothers in arms
phil collins live album
cant think of a third atm
What do you count as recent though
So what do you reckon are the best of the recent albums?
Panch
Loads of older stuff I could suggest. tbh I struggle to find modern stuff that's well recorded so I'm taking notes. :)
mulletboy2 31-05-2006, 11:58 AM DavID ( :p ) Gilmour - On an Island
Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris - All the Roadrunning
Jamie Cullum - Catching Tales

That's the idea.. ;)
Thumper, last couple of years or so I suppose.. :) It's just really hard to find good, well recorded modern stuff, hence the question..
Mark - his good friends just call him Dave..
Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris sounds like an interesting combination, must look out for that one.. ;)

I might have known you'd say that

Yeah, it's not exactly my taste in music, but I'm trying to get used to it. I didn't particularly like "Dave"'s stuff at first either, nor quite a few of the CD's I listen to for SQ. Speaking of which, the old Queensryche stuff was well recorded, so I must pick up their Mindcrime 2 album which came out recently - hopefully it'll give them there midbasses (and amps) a run for their money :D
btw, I spelt "Roadrunner" wrong before, so I've corrected it just incase anyone noticed.
Cheers
Mark
Voice_Coil 31-05-2006, 01:13 PM i went away and thought about this one.....based on the most listened to cd`s lately
jeff beck - blow by blow.
alison krauss & union station - home on the highways.
larry carlton - collection. [ lead guitar player from steeley dan ]
Panch 31-05-2006, 01:21 PM alison krauss & union station - home on the highways.
Now that's triggered my memory.. you should try Lonely Cuts Both Ways by the same artists. I think it's their latest album, probably their best IMHO.
Panch
miamivice 31-05-2006, 01:30 PM Alan Silvestri - Back to the future Part III
Toto - IV
Alan Silvestri - Predator (upto track 11)

ill be sure to investigate further panch ;)
Mike_CJO 31-05-2006, 02:27 PM Cant think of any new ones but the main cd i use for SQ stuff at home is Mike Oldfield - Tubular bells 3
Deezal 31-05-2006, 02:46 PM Older = George Michael; Fleetwood Mac;
Newer = really like the Mary J Blige album and have listened to it so much that I use it to hear any changes when I change things in the system.
Also got an amazing Asian (Sri-Lankan) CD - IRAJ, that is really well produced and female asian singers have mind-blowing voices. Really great to hear the highs and clarity/detail of a system - IMO.

Now that's interesting, as I use TB II as one of my SQ test disks.. ;) I've not heard TB III, so that's another one I'll have to add to the list..

EMMA Competition Disc 2003/04 :D
EMMA Competition Disc 2005/06 :D :D
EMMA Competition Disc 2007/08 :D :D :D :D
and the DVD Audio we plan to produce from the new Competition Disc
Honestly i have a remix CD called "Zance, a Decade of Dance from ZIT" with remixes from Frankie goes to Hollywood, Grace Jones and others for use in Clubs. It is mixed in a tipical late 80´s way and sounds great on well adjusted mobile systems. Most of the stuff is fast music with perfect definition and powerful dynamic. The common High End Freaks would never use it but for the Car System it is fantastic while driving and hosts lots of Information.

I've been too busy picking up some of the old stuff - if "recent" means what's on hi-rotation now...i'd be tempted to say nothing.
Among the "old stuff" I listen to
pat coil - steps
michael ruff - speaking in melodies
Mary Black - (tie between) Shine and The Collection
...and a lot of oooooold sh!t :)
EDIT: Just realised it was a top 3.... so added Mary B

If you like Alison krauss then try Rod Picott. www.rodpicott.com I have all his albums and many live gig recordings but the conection, he used to be Alisons coach driver and warm up singer. She also guested on his 2nd or 3rd album.
As for my three top cd's they would have to be Rod Picott's Stray Dogs album, DJ Tiesto Just Be and The blues station album First blood.
Quite a mix but my tastes are eclectic to say the least.
Chimp choker:cheese:
Antony and the Johnsons - I am a bird now. Amazing vocals, a real good test for the system
Mary Black - The Collection. Not exactly current, but Voice_Coil introduced me to it, and i'm playing it a lot at the moment.
Robbie Williams - Swing when you're Winning. For no particulaur reason othet than it's good fun.
Sonus 31-05-2006, 09:04 PM Jennifer Warnes - The hunter
Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat
Voice_Coil 31-05-2006, 09:07 PM also can i add
roger waters- amused to death
tangerine dream - miracle mile
bassomatic- set the controls for the heart of the sun

I was toying with putting that on my list too, but it's been out a little while now. I think it was my favourite album of last year though.. :) and is definitely in my SQ disk pack..

klettman 01-06-2006, 03:29 PM Oh, i´m sorry Panch,
just come to Puglia next week (South of Italy) with a fantastic beach and amazing landscape as well as perfect food and redwine. The location is Vieste, Hotel Gargano. We could sit on the pool and discuss about that new CD. The first track i have already as mp3 received today from the Studio to tell them if the style is OK and i can tell you that it is. If you´re interessted in having a real session i could arrange a day at the Studio without any problem. That will open your eyes and ears.
on vacation now, oohoo i´m on vacation now.:raz:
(Special edition of Status Quo´s in the army now)

marko 01-06-2006, 09:13 PM not got the evita one though, wanna burn me a copy fella? :raz:
i've been having problems with my burner, not sure what's happened to it but it's annoying
i can also recomend most of maddona's albums :)
easytease 01-06-2006, 09:21 PM ckemp, if you want good 'unplugged' get dashboard confessionl's unplugged, or even the corrs' set was quite good
Peakz 01-06-2006, 10:03 PM Art Blakey's "Keystone 3" cd (or SACD) is a great live set recorded in the early 80's.
Jan Garaberek's "I Took Up The Runes" is very airy as most ECM's catalogue is.
Lastly, Bonnie Raitt's "Luck of the Draw" featuring some top blues artists.
Steely Dan - Everything must go.
Just been through my SQ disk wallet and that's the only one that's less than 5 years old :D
Voice_Coil 02-06-2006, 12:55 PM john i havent forgotten you bud, ive been ultra busy this week , have you got anthonty and the johnsons cd ?
and GOOD LUCK for the weekend mate , take some brut , you will win easy , hehe
Nawty 02-06-2006, 01:04 PM the new chillies album seems quite good
I've just had a listen and it seems much better produced that all of their other stuff which is a travesty considering the quality of the songs.
I often use Dire Straits and Nirvana Unlugged as it is just full of ambience, subtle detail and most importantly emotion :)
The one use most is Dark side of the moon as I know it so well.
Mmm, nothing recent for me either.

Sorry Alex, can't make Puglia unfortunately.. :( However, I may well be interested in the session at the studio when you're mixing the disk.. :) In fact, I've got a couple of ideas for the new disk, so I'll drop you an email about them. Have a great vacation.. speak to you soon.. :)

I haven't got the anthony and the johnsons. Worth getting then?
No win for me this weekend I thinks. Car doesn't sound so good. Lots changed and can't get it back :shake:

For SQ, I find the following pretty good:
Fleetwood Mac- Tango In The Night
Dire Straits- Alchemy (Great Live Album)
D.S - Love Over Gold
Out of new Albums, I Say that Dire Straits P.I is pretty good (but not as good as Love Over Gold I found in terms of SQ but not a million miles away for that matter).
I found Coldplay's X&Y to have decentish SQ. It is compared to their first two albums, which I thought were poorly recorded.
So again, nothing really recent.
klettman 03-06-2006, 07:21 AM Hi Panch you and Gordon are already invited to come over on July8/9 for a little Party with competition at Fulda Gängs place and the next day i could arrange a session at the studio.
Also any other time between June 20 and July 20 would be fine for me but after that it is too late. You can get really cheap flights from Stansted to Nuremberg which is only 90 Km from the Studio so i could also pic you up at the Airport and bring you back.
