None on the inner skin?

What deadening is it?

Mr. Fusion
19-05-2006, 06:05 PM
there is some on the inner skin, i just hadn't done all the way down when i took the pics. its R-blox deadening.

Put some on the inner skin behind the speaker. Works a treat and'll stop a bit of road noise mixing in behind it.

I've recently done the doors on my 205 and it's made a big difference on the road. Only a budget effort, with 2 layers of bodyline type stuff on the doorskin (3 behind where the drivers will be), and a layer of flashing tape to seal up all the holes, but it seems to work well enough.

I'm surprised how many people get their inner and outer skins mixed up though. You all seem to be referencing it from the inside of the car, when it should be done from the outside:
The inner skin is the one you can see in the picture with all the 'holes' in it.
The outer skin is the solid skin that you see from the outside of the car.

What's to say you're right and we're wrong?

Why should it be done from the outside when you're working on it from the inside of the car?

You are technically right but everyone who has replied gets the jist. If you are inside the car looking at the door then surely it would be concievable to be an inner skin as its the further most point inside the door

inner = skin which is closest to the inside of the car, ie the holey one

outer = skin closest to the outside of the car, ie the big solid one

Its the way 99.9% of people refer to them

if you can cover all the holes (doesnt have to be soundproofing) it will make a huge difference. i did mine with carboard and tape, and made a huge difference...(along with sound proofing)

Exactly. It's just the way the car industry has always refered to them, to avoid this type of confusion. :)

i cant apply deadening to a closed door! lol, if i was outside, i would get electrocuted (spelling?!), the heat gun would disagree with water i think! lol

looks very good, i would advise after reading the break-in thread, to take that sticker off - bit of an advertisement to say the least! as no-one would put an RE sticker on if they didnt have any ICE worth nicking ;)
as they wouldnt know what RE is you see.

would be a shame to lose the gear, especially after you broke those nails fitting the red stuff in the port :p ;)

the r-blox seems quite good, but i have not used dynamat before, always think its too expensive. no need to worry about it going anywhere, its thatcham cat 1'd, usually garaged, if not outside my window, and never gets left anywhere really as i dont use it that much, plus i live in a place no one knows exists! lol

Looks a good job on those doors.

I'm just about to undergo my deadening, doors and boot, once I buy some off eBay. Gonna go for the 30sq ft roll of eDead for just over £50. Should do everything hopefully (Going in a Clio).

Dynamat Extreme is waaay too expensive IMO.

I hear Brown Bread is decent enough. There is also R-Blox that has been used above.

Ive used a loaf of brown bread on my doors and im just about to order a bulk pack of the stuff to do the rest of my car, and iv got 2x custom packs of dynamat and 2x spray dynamat so that should deaden the whole of my clio quite nicley

Isn't brown bread £100 for 60/70sq ft?

I'm sure the edead stuff is the same price as BB and from the comments i've heard on the edead i thought BB seemed like a better and more safe option.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for with dynamat, brown bread, edead etc i did an extensive search on all the offerings and overall dynamat was mentioned again and again and again. Generally if you dont spend to much dont expect massive returns.
