View Full Version : sound only Q???
ckemp21 26-04-2006, 10:27 PM my car, as usual is not trimmed & finished....
what do you judge on the install in sound only??
the install is sound other than trimming etc....
GTi Si 26-04-2006, 10:37 PM Basic install is judged :)

I did Pro Sound Only at the Auto Audio show, and i thought the install judging was more in depth than IASCA. There is a part in the rule book that mentions NOT having a bare wood install. :)
Panch 26-04-2006, 11:14 PM Nige, the rules are a little different for Pro... ;)
There was a long discussion about this at Head Judge training earlier this year, and the conclusion was that a Pro car should be exactly that, i.e. still up to Pro standards, whether it is in Sound Only, or any of the other Pro classes. Hence Pro Sound Only still includes a significant install element.. you just don't have to worry about Bonus Points..
Chris, you would be judged on basic install.. which is a lot easier.. ;)

Ah, tht makes sense! Is there no equivalent to SQC in EMMA?
Panch 26-04-2006, 11:18 PM Not for Pro's I'm afraid.. ;) The Amateur install is pretty much safety only, which is probably closest to the SQC format.

Voice_Coil 26-04-2006, 11:21 PM that suits my install well panch as of right now theres a nice piece of pine for an amp board , lol
Panch 27-04-2006, 08:01 AM It still needs to be secured and safe etc. and fused correctly.. ;) Check the rulebook carefully with regards to fusing.. they're generally pretty hot on it in EMMA..

ckemp21 27-04-2006, 03:25 PM cheers guys.
what about documentation.....
tbh i cant be 8rsed to do mine again for emma rules.......as i only wanna taste the apple ;) and get an idea of the differences ;)
ive got photos of hidden wiring, some in-progress/logic shots - do i NEED a system layout diagram??
and will it matter if ive got bare wood?? / FG etc etc.
ive borrowed clives rule book - but it doenst clearly show the differnces betweet sound only and 'normal' install judging!
or am i just missing the points?

klettman 27-04-2006, 07:12 PM Yep

Ale555 27-04-2006, 07:31 PM For a first timer it wo´nt be a problem to start just as you want to. You dan´t HAVE to do anything but coming around.
@Klett: According to Fichtelberg? I don´t think you were expert unlimited in 06!?! That was just Pro Drink Only...
Ahh...I am NOT hot on everything...maybe I´m too young...
klettman 28-04-2006, 05:19 AM Didn´t we have breakfast together? The rule says:
Judge who is still online after 6 o´clock in the morning is allowed to use the title of expert unlimited. By the way! how many british have you seen at the breakfast? :whatever:

Ale555 28-04-2006, 07:17 AM Not a real brit...;) :D
Right, you were there in the morning BUT you get deduction because of Peter beeing Rookie2000...So, added together...haha...
But I think Panch went to bed after you?!?
@ckemp: I don´t think you´ll need a new documentation from what you write. If there is a fault in it it´ll be told to you.
ckemp21 28-04-2006, 10:55 AM any photos i deffo need to show you guys?
do i NEED a system diagram?
i'll prob be in amateur sound only, so dont really wanna lose silly install points......
panch - feel free to pm me with any 'obvious' amatuer pitfalls :raz: :raz:
Ale555 28-04-2006, 11:33 AM You won´t need it. From what you written its ok. If you have a system diagram its not a fault...but this is only one thing which divides good from very good presentation points. It might be 1 point I think.
Panch 28-04-2006, 01:37 PM ^ like Alex says..
With regards to tips.. fusing.. ;) Other than that, make sure everything is secure, and you don't have any lose wires etc. You also get a few points for cosmetics and craftsmanship.
Basic install is judged under the following areas:
6.1 Safety
6.1.1. Wiring and fuses
6.1.2. Drivers view
6.1.3. Normal use
6.1.4. Mechanical mounting
6.2 Optic impression
6.2.1. Source unit
6.2.2. Speakers
6.2.3. Amplifiers and other devices
6.2.4. Craftsmanship
6.3 Presentation
6.3.1. Cleanliness
6.3.2. Presentation / Show off

ckemp21 28-04-2006, 04:48 PM thanks P.
my visor screen shows the h/u info - will this count for 'drivers view'.
will (can) i be judged for craftsmanship on the bits that are actually done.... :raz:
does the car have to be as anally-clean as IASCA??
how do you get marked for show-off....am i being encouraged to play my p0rn dvds throught the screen ;)
Drivers view is in the safety section, i.e, do you have a hideous ghetto-like mid and tweeter build gaffer taped to the a-pillar obscuring your vision?

touche'
Sorry, couldn't resist!
The 'show off' part is literally that ... showing people around your car, giving listening demos etc. :)
emmauk 28-04-2006, 08:20 PM hello Chris.
"does the car have to be as anally-clean as IASCA??"
the cleaning thing aint a problem.
As long as the car looks presentable its enough none of the judges are going to be wearing white gloves & checking for specs of dust.:D
cheer's
ken.

why not :-) just bought some cotton buds to check the hard to get to places under the car:evil: and tweezers for counting the grass in the tyre tread.
Sorry just joking, just turn up have some fun & hopefully learn something new. We are the same as you interested in (mad about) car audio.
Panch 29-04-2006, 07:49 AM thanks P.

1. So long as it doesn't really obstruct the view of the road, you should be OK. Check out the addendum to the rules, it clarifies the visibility rules.
2. Nice try mate.. ;) but no, you will be judged on the car as a whole.. the craftsmanship thing in Amateur Sound Only is not really a big part though.. EMMA just wanted to encourage amateurs to be a little more conscious of how they were doing the installation, rather than just throw the kit in.. ;)
3. I think this one has been answered very well by both the guys above.
However, if you send the car back to the factory, have it completely resprayed, have the interior replaced, and then trailer it to the next event under covers, you may get a bonus point for attention to detail.. ;).. still may not get you maximum points in IASCA though.. :(
4. Save this one 'til all the visitors go maybe.. ;) But yes, if you want to play DVD's to show off your system, by all means do. Newth had a clip of a souped-up MK1 Escort with a Cossie lump driving around a circuit at West Europe Cup last year.. attracted loads of attention.. which is exactly what we're after.. :)
Hope that answers all your questions, but you got an idea of what we're about at the Auto Audio event anyhow hopefully.. :)
