180mph crash for Massa in Monacco FP3. Doesn't sound good.
Medium-sized Family Hatchback - £5k Budget
13 May 2013 - 11:37
Time for a new car. Ideally I'd like a little bit of performance and a good specification as I'm now older so insurance isn't too expensive!
We don't tend to cover many miles, say 5k or so a year, and would be keeping this car for as long as possible. I don't have a preference when it comes to diesel/petrol.
Current possibilities are:
2005/6 VW Golf GT TDI 140 - Slight premium being a Golf but remappable to around 185bhp and fairly well spec'd. Have read about issues with chocolate turbos. Average mileage for £5k seems to be 90k
2005 Audi A3 2.0T Quattro Sport FSI - Same engine as the MKV Golf GTi, same as a Golf underneath but larger boot. More expensive tax (£280 vs. £140) and only around 30mpg. 197bhp. Possibly more expensive to keep running. Again average mileage for £5k is around 90-100k.
2005/2006/2007 Ford Focus - Difficult to find a higher spec Focus although tend to be lower mileage for the same cost as the VW/Audi. Possibly cheaper on parts?
Any other ideas/views? Seat equivilant or Skoda? I'm not too keen on the interior of the Fabia vRS but do like the performance aspect.
Cheers

SD Card Corrupt
08 Apr 2013 - 08:10
A friend of mine recently completed a Macmillan Charity Cycle Race up Mount Killomanjaro but unfortunately the SD card they used for the first 4 days is now showing as 'corrupt'.
I said I'd try some recovery software for them but unfortunately it's not even showing up when inserted into my card reader.
Any ideas how I can force it to appear? If not, could be a hardware from I guess as he did have a few falls!
