Well, I say boot and door build but am starting with the boot and seeing how that goes. Plan is once my sub box is done I will put my new Type-R 12 in it to replace my GT4. I then plan on building my false floor around the sub enclosure. This will have a compartment for my amps, dizzy box, amp/volt meter display and possibly an active crossover.Plus looking into some PC fans for air extraction. To the lid for that I will fit a gas strut to as well. For the front doors, I plan on fitting my tweeters to the original sail panels cuttings them out, for now at least. The 16.5 comps I have fitted to the OEM plastic mounts, though I plan on making new ones out of mdf or if I feel brave, steel. Just bought a load of Silent Coat 4mm sound deadening today for inner outer front door skins, outer rear door skins and hopefully the boot floor and tailgate.

So much to do and so many hands on my time. Any encouragement / advice will be very much appreciated especially as I have only been into this for about 6 months but after attending Trax, I have most certainly got the bug

Not wanting to upset the masses, here are some pictures.

First enclosure I have made on my own:


First attempt free hand, bit of sanding needed me thinks:






Enclosure carpeted. Not entirely happy but not bad for a first attempt and made it with free off cuts. Enclosure at the moment is sealed, 400mm square and had 1.7 cubic feet after sub displacement.

ported is the way forward not a bad box being it 1st time. try building a ported box. the jbl will impress you even more, and surely the type R will sound immense too. iv heard it before sealed and ported. both subs sounds great sealed, but ported its crazy!

Not sure if you know or been told yet but the 6x9 firing in to the boot like that with a sub will most likely not work to there best potential due to the air pressure created from the sub on the rear of the cones and you could end up with cancellation issues too. IMHO I would add an enclosure to the rear of the 6x9 or disconnect them.

Am thinking of going slotted for my next box, this should suit the Type-R nicely. Just not sure what frequency to build it to as I like so many types of boxes.

They are still there. I have them connected to the HU but have them faded out. I only still have them as there would be 2 big holes in my parcel shelf without them. In my unenlightened day all that time ago (about 6 months) I thought the car system would not sound any good without 6x9's in the rear) You live and learn.

As a side point, I have never seen a 6x9 enclosure fitted to speaker shelf's, have you got any examples?

not yet mate,ive nearly finished to be honest but i will put some pics up,its very budget though,although i will slowly be upgrading along the way.

If I wanted to port the enclosure above (seeing as this is the first box I have made on my own) how would I go about it? Should I do it and is that enclosure suitable for porting? (was thinking round port).

a ported enclosure is normally twice as big as a sealed.

mines 2.1cuft after displacements.
