i dont understand why you dont just hacksaw that off and use a nut and bolt?

If you have drilled through a hardened bolt (or stud in this case) it is not a pleasant or swift task, especially if you are working on your back with limited space ;). Either that or I am lazy (but I don't really like welding/grinding underneath either for the reasons Nathan stated!).

Whilst I was weighing up the options of cutting down the side of the bolt and chiselling the nut off, cutting off the lot in that order I thought I would give the Irwin grips one more go. I may have got a little brutal with them/tried a couple of other sizes compared to previous times but they were a bit of a lifesaver! You can definitely say that I am a believer in the mole grips! Well worth the cash in this instance and that's with the 'baby' set.
Money will not make you happy, but at least you will be miserable in comfort.
