I'm currently on a site at London zoo re doing the tiger enclosure. I get the tube to Camden town but was gonna bike to the zoo as it's quicker mainly when I clock off and want to get to the station ASAP. Any ideas how much they cost to use

So you pay £1 per day to let you use the bike then £35 just to actually use the damn thing for 6hours?
Another informative post my Aaron. It's usualy just rubbish but might actually be slightly interesting.

Yea, because most people only want to use it for 30mins, which is included in the £1. Nobody is going to cycle for 6 hours on one. It would only take an hour or two to get between the furthest two stations! Also, you wouldn't want to do 6 hours on one of those bikes; they weigh more than a person.

Park it up, re-rent again later.

They are designed as point to point "public" transport, as opposed to leisure bikes. Aimed at commuters.

These stands are everywhere goodwina. :)

People that ride these bikes are generally idiots that have no safety equipment and never ridden a bike before, especially in central london.

You can walk that in about 10 minutes. It'll take you longer to find a barclay bike, wrestle it out of the rack, cycle there, then find somewhere to park it up and walk the last bit.

can't remember seeing any of these bike stations around camden town tube, find a map of the bike stations and you'll get a good idea of whether you actually save any time.

Ah, sorry - I guess you didn't know how they're supposed to be used. Yea, they're point to point, and you just get another one (all for the original £1) later for your return journey.

If one is full, bike to the next one. They're max 5 mins apart. There are iphone and Android apps that give a live feed of the amount of bikes and spaces left in each rack in London. It's really rather impressive.

You pay a £1 per day and for that you get unlimited use upto 30 mins per go I think. Great scheme in theory. Horrible bikes. However a lot better than waiting around for a night bus.

Word of advice, check tires and adjust seat etc before you sign the bike out :)

For that distance though, I'd walk.

I have. Horrible things. The seats are designed to suit everyone so just the wrong side of comfortable, you have two gears, the 3rd is akin to having your chain fall off and a lot of the time the brakes ain't great. All in all not great but ok for leisurely rides to the shop/work/town.

By all means try one though, it's only £3 for the key and a quid for eac day you use it or £45 for the year.

I do wonder though if they use a similar system to Oyster where they cap the rates?
