Hi guys

My mums C3 won't start. It is a 2005, the car is in good condition.

It sounds like it is about to start and then stops. It is an auto so you have to hold the brake down and then turn the key.

I think it may just be the cold, what can I do?

Thanks

Dead battery? My mum's had problems turning over which turned out to be corroded wires going to the battery, reterminated them all and it's been perfect since

Please dont use easy start, that stuff is crap.
Its not starting because there a fault.
Easy start might have been ok on older acrs but not newer ones .

anyluck with the car? get a code scanner form argos and scan the ecu for error codes and i can look them up on Autodata which will pin point what the issue is , but if trying to start but dosent then fuel pump is gone , had same issue on my old e30 the pump was turning on but didnt have any pressure so it "catches" wen the fuel built up in the line, switched it and tun the key and bang it fired up right away.

Is it the auto pedal switch thats knackered?

Does it evan attempt to start?

Also the Bsi has prone faults with water getting inside them ( considering the frost and condensation) this may be the case, the BSI is situated by the battery in a case and the terminals in between fuses corrode.

All Sorted now guys. The car has stop and start and only allows the engine to tick over for a second or so. Not long enough when starting from cold. Then because it did start first time, the engine got flooded. We took the sparks out and warmed them up and then charged the battery and all is well now.

Thanks :)

How can you flood an injected engine when 12 volts is needed to fill the injection rail?

fuel rail primes on ignition so the moment it turns over it will fire, keep doing it an it will flood

Yes but most cars have no reverse pump so its purely vacuum. If its being turned over repeatedly it wont have time to go back so more will be pushed in

But then the pulse feed controls how much goes in does it not?

But then the pressure would be high in the rail , im sure this is how management sorts it out?

If its flooded generally its just the plugs and cyl walls that are wet with fuel, once it gets too bad, the engine wont start unless you give it a good crank over and lots of throttle to get air in there...

There isnt a measure of rich/lean inside the cylinder, so the managment cant lean it out untill the leftovers are burnt off. Maybe your over thinking it too much.... :)

Ah ok :)

Im pretty sure modern injection engines use a pressure sender in the fuel rail, and when it reaches a certain level, the fuel pump shuts off. Modern engines are returnless im sure about that. :) Older MPI engines ran a return to the fuel tank and the pump ran at a constant speed to fill the rail, there was a pressure relief valve which gave return when it reached a certain PSI/BAR
